Whackies? I never wrote whackies. Why are you quoting me with the term whackies? Maybe you should lay off the beer(any kind) for a while.
I don't know that I'd go that far. Just so happens it's what's prevalent in the U.S. and years and years of marketing make it the choice. I remember the first (and last) time I had a Corona. What a nasty beer but now it's "trendy" and yuppies all over swear it's great beer. Now with more "specialty" and "micro" breweries we at least have a chance but it takes time. People have to realize that beer is more complex than our usual fare. It's like tea over here. I'm always looking for a better tea. If my wife and I go out for dinner I bring my own tea. Yup, I pay them for some hot water.
I'm not that much of a prude. Beer's to get you drunk. Although even as a kid some U S(mostly New York Brewerys) beer never tasted good. Pabst's Blue Ribbon, Rheingold, Schaffer, Piels, Ballantine, they all sucked.
True story. I took Clembo to my favorite deli in Los Angelas, Canters on Fairfax, we had Sam Adams, BUT, when I took him to my favorite "breakfast nook" high in the Hollywood Hills, he whipped out his own tea bag and ordered hot water.
"Beer's to get you drunk" We've gone full circle , point being most American beer wont in fact get you drunk , not unless copious amounts are had.Just too weak.
Micro-brewery in my neck o' the woods....Bluepoint Brewery. They make a decent lager and a terrific winter ale.
Tell you one Scottish brew I canna stand is Tennents, that stuff is peewater imho. Actually when it comes to British brews, there is some Anglish stuff I like, if it is cellar cool that is.
Ah Tennents .. i was never a fan of the tins of beer from tennents and didnt know many who were. The draught tennents though was passable , again was never a choice id go for but in some pubs you didnt get a choice.
Now you are just being picky , it wasnt that bad.Depends which pub you had it in too. A pubs hygiene and stock have much to do with what your pint is going to taste like. Best key to thinking is seek out the busy pub , the clientel will clearly be a sign of whats on offer. Old quiet pubs look great but if they are not doing business you get old quiet beer.
Whos being picky? This whole thread is about being picky. How did any of you guys survive the '70s and 80's in this country? It didnt have that many micro- brewerys then. I know, I know..some of you werent here in those decades. And yet it seems you drank every american beer since, to know they suck. Yes, I only had a handful of British and European beer, so I am guilty of stereotyping. But I think you only need one or two glasses that swill to be accurate in judgement.
How did i survive the 80's ..i went and lived in the UK where a dude can still get a decent pint The best beer in America is the imported stuff , ill give them that theres a good choice.Domestic beers really are extremely poor..as we know
