Will President Obama Become Emperor Obama Today?

A little over a year ago, President Obama declared that he would not take unilateral action regarding immigration and that to do so would, in essence, make him an emperor.

The White House has announced that on November 20, 2014, Obama will make a statement to the nation that he will indeed take unilateral action on immigration and change the law without the authorization of Congress, the law-making institution of this country.

Should Obama actually make this statement, he will set himself up as an emperor who decides what laws to create and enforce.

Will Obama become the Emperor of America today?

 

I'm not saying i agree with it, but Kennedy, Nixon, Reagan and Bush did the same thing, and no one complained. why the big stink now?
Personally i believe the illegals should be forced to go through the immigration process and become legal immigrants if they want to stay here. I also think that once we eliminate the deficit and have money, we should build a giant fence/wall along the entire border, but that probably wont happen for at least a few decades

I think you will find that many of the people with an agenda "stretch the truth" to make their point. Just look at Gruber's comments, speeches, et al on Obamacare. Or most of the press's dealings (or worse yet, Sharpton's) with the Furguson cop's guilt even though they do not know what happened. Or, if you have the time, read some of joenation's posts.

 

I live in Missouri, so the Ferguson thing has really divided a lot of people here. The evidence supports Wilson's claims, but the Eyewitness (Brown's friend who he was with) claims that Brown was running away with his hands up (which was disproved by the two released autopsies, but people still believe it) Governor Jay Nixon is advising people across the state to stay home and lock their doors the day of the announcement, because the Black Panthers and other protesters are threatening to raise hell if Wilson isn't indicted, and the local Grand Dragon Wizard (or whatever its called) of the KKK is threatening to have the protest leaders lynched.
I'm one of only a handful of people in my particular city (KC area) who doesn't think Brown's "murder" was racially motivated. I actually looked up the evidence for both sides, and there's far more for Wilson than against him. unfortunately i don't think the jury will pay that much attention when the evidence is presented in court because the story has already been over reported by the race-hustling media.
Whatever the verdict is, I just hope the National Guard intervenes before there's a war between the Klan and the Panthers.

 

Well, Obama did it. He actually did it. The Republicans need to fight him with every possible political weapon they have in their arsenal to stop this tyrant. Also, JLogan, please read for yourself what the previous presidents did regarding immigration. Don't take my word for it or your teacher's word; investigate the facts on your own. You will see that what the previous presidents did was NOT what Obama has done. Obama's actions today are unprecedented in the history of our country (and not in a good way). He is stepping on our country's rule of law as if it didn't exist.

 

My guess is that he is innocent, but I really don't know. Like I did, the people with an agenda have him convicted even though they don't have the evidence. BTW, from what I hear, there are 5 or 6 eyewitnesses who are backing up Wilson.

 

Your question should not be what should we call Obama, but rather what should the Republicans do about it. Impeachment absolutely will not work. They have the power to strangled him financially, but how are they going to do that without shutting down the government and they will get the blame for that one? I have no clue how the courts can or if they can help. What is left?

 

Rick Perry said that the state of Texas will sue his ass off, and i hope he goes through with it. and impeachment isn't to far of a stretch if we can convince the moderate democrats that what Obama did was unconstitutional. then Joe Biden can be the lame duck.

A resolution? WHOOPEE!!!
The courts? I am not sure who has standing to sue, but I really don't think the governors do, but I will have to hear the expert opinion on that.
The purse? Obama will not sign a budget which doesn't support his projects and then guess who gets blamed for the shutdown? OOPS!
Confirmations? That has an outside prayer, but I don't know how much kick it has.
The rest is pie in the sky.

I really doubt you could find 2 Democrats to support a conviction. Oh, and BTW, most of the Democrats who lost were the "moderates". Guess what is left.

And, I will get technical on you. The House impeaches. If there is a chance of the Senate convicting, that would easily pass. But the Senate tries and I doubt they could muster 60 votes and it takes 67 to convict. Remember what happened with Clinton?

 

There isn't a lot anything, short of impeachment, that can be done against a president (even one who acts unconstitutionally). But, a resolution is a start. You must admit it's better than nothing and adds to the ammunition, figuratively speaking, against Obama.

I'm not an attorney, so I don't know who has standing to sue on this issue. However, there's talk of suing Obama for this and attaching it as a rider to Boehner's suit. I like the idea.

The Republicans will have to ask themselves whether its worth it to fight an unconstitutional decree. On principal, I would say "yes, absolutely". However, from a political standpoint, the Republicans will have to carefully weigh their options. It may be better to let Obama get away with this (although, in that case, it will set a terrible precedent for unconstitutional decrees) and keep the public on their side by not shutting down the government. However, there is talk that only certain aspects could be de-funded which would dry up funds for these immigration changes without affecting the rest of the government. We'll have to see how this plays out. Obama doesn't control the purse strings and can't spend a single cent without authorization from Congress. Obama pissed off a lot of powerful people with his imperial decree and they are likely to come up with many ways to keep him from funding his edict.

It goes without saying that Obama just lost any chance of having any nominations confirmed by the (soon-to-be-Republican) Senate. The Republicans can stifle any nominations for the remainder of Obama's presidency. That not only includes cabinet members, but judges also. Obama won't be able to pad the judicial system with any of his cronies. This is a bigger deal than it seems on face value.

I totally agree. Impeachment, unfortunately, is completely off the table. Even if the numbers were there and impeachment was possible, the public would turn against the Republicans for attempting it now. The Republicans know that. They're going to do little to jeopardize their chances at a 2016 victory now that they're in a MUCH better position to facilitate that victory. For the most part, Republicans are more than likely going to let this imperial decree slide because they know Obama's term only has two years left. Let the emperor have his fun, but that doesn't mean the Republicans should simply turn a blind eye. The emperor is playing a political game against the Republicans at the cost of our Constitution and our country. The Republicans aren't in control yet, but they soon will be. I suspect they're planning their next move as we speak.

Well, the first round of lawyers on Fox say I was probably right - the governors do not have standing. However, they think it might be possible for congressmen to sue. Even though they didn't seem optimistic, go for it.

As for confirmations, you are correct. Another however - he has already packed the DC court. Guess where all the suits against the President get filed.

I don't have the/an answer. I hope Boehner and company have some possibilities.

 

Just wait until we get a Republican president and he decides all unions should be banned so he issues an executive order. Or a photo ID should be required for all elections.

It is not so much what the result is, the problem is how it was done.

 

Would you have said the same thing about American colonists in 1776? The colonists were speaking of a system of government when they wrote this in the Declaration of Independence, but it holds just as true when speaking of an emperor:

"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

Obama has discarded and mocked our system of government by bypassing the Congress and issuing his imperial decree. Republicans appear to be the only ones standing against this emperor; the Democrats certainly aren't. I don't consider a fight against imperialism to be a "vendetta". "Patriotism" would be the proper word.

 

I think it IS a big deal. Lawmaking by fiat is a slippery slope and very un-American. People are turning a blind eye to this just as they did with the NDAA. Incrementally, we are giving our president the power of a king. Unless someone (the Republicans in this case) steps up and does something about it, we may as well return to a totalitarian system. If that happens, I'd love to see your argument on civil forfeiture.
