So, what . . . the only women that are "cool" are the ones who allow people to get away with sexist comments and take it on the chin like a man? And you'll be offended if someone says, for example, that that kind of comment should go out with phrases like "little lady" and "don't worry your sweet little head about it?" Never mind that such a comment sets women's issues back about 30 years, since it pretty much puts down women as basically all being the shrews people see on "Real Housewives," who are about as representative of real women as I am of an NFL linebacker. So yes, it was an ignorant and offensive statement that was denigrating to women.

For the record, I don't take offense, but statements like that do show that no matter how many strides women make in a society, there are always people willing to make ignorant--or at least thoughtless--statements that deny them equal respect as human beings.

 

What an absolutely asinine statement. You might as well just apologize now and get it over with instead of digging yourself in deeper.

 

As I missed the comment and the lack of a report on the comment, I am happy to take some of the blame for not removing it but the rest lies with you folks for not reporting it and also for continuing it.

 

For the record: I just considered the comment dumb, not report-worthy.

Uncalled for Comment

 

I consider this a fairly open forum in which members can express themselves freely. Not being a moderator, I restrict my "reporting" to posts which are obviously spam, links to porn sites, etc.

I was shocked by the comment that was made, but as I stated previously, I wasnt offended. Therefore, I saw no reason to report it. Nevertheless, I see the comment has been removed. I'll reserve judgment on whether or not I agree with that decision.

Here's an interesting point I'd like you to consider then: In the last couple months myself and others have used the term "man-up". Do you consider that sexist as well? I don't remember anyone raising cain about it at any of the several times it was spoke... yet it is equally sexist. My point: The people who believe "woman-talk" is sexist are themselves sexist for not raising a fuss over "man-up". Being offended by comments about only one gender is sexist in and of itself.

Whether my comment, "-talk", is considered sexist or not is the issue. Whether it's considered a violation of the sites terms or (if removed and myself being punished for posting it) censorship of a controversial topic is my issue lol

...something to consider though... ask Oprah, or the women from the view on what the term means... if you dare... things just might get physical...

If you believe my comment is capable of setting women back 30 years you are seriously mistaken. IMO, comments like your's are part of the problem... over-sensitivity to perceived insults only weakens the cause (of women's equality). To combat that instinct, watch "Girlfight", maybe it'll help you understand what true progress is lol

 

I'm offended by just about everything you say. But, that's beside the point. "Man-up" COULD be considered sexist by some. I don't remember you ever using the term, so I can't comment on that. My suggestion to you would be to listen to that great philosopher, Sheriff Dupnik who said, "And I think people who are unbalanced are especially susceptible to vitriol," he said during his televised remarks. "People tend to pooh-pooh this business about all the vitriol we hear inflaming the American public by people who make a living off of doing that. That may be free speech, but it's not without consequences."

Free speech indeed... but it's not without consequences as the good Sheriff so aptly put it. Just sayin'.

 

My comment was meant to be reflective of yours. Maybe I should have used quotation marks around the "take it on the chin" thing? To make it clear I was being a tad sarcastic? And perhaps you should have taken note where I said that I was not offended by the comment, but only found it to be dumb. Also, almost all "reality" programming is exploitative and is not reflective of actual reality. That's why "Real Housewives," "Girlfight," "Repo whatevers" and any other program that focuses on the bad behavior of the cast creates conflict for their characters. If you think that "Girlfight" is actually reflective of reality, then maybe the problem goes deeper than just a comment about "women talk." In any case, maybe it would be better to stop lashing out at people around you who dared call you on the carpet, apologize, and let it drop.

 

I don't report much on any forum. Outside of spam, maybe a handful of times I have reported a post here when someone has lost it and called someone else a name that I know is obviously verboten. lol In the grand scheme of things like that, that particular comment didn't register high enough to report. Plus, by the time I saw it, the horses were already past the barn doors. lol

 

I just have to wonder about those RW'ers that are so upset with the PC culture and here we have one who is "shocked" but not offended by a relatively benign term. Were you just as offended by the term man-talk or just shocked by it? This conversation is too stupid to continue. If false indignation were an art form, Okie would be in a museum. I keep picturing a dandy prancing around and swooning for some reason.

 

Really? Reporting someone for calling someone else a name? I think it's douche-y enough when moen runs to tattle for being called a name but reporting a back & forth that doesn't involve you? Why does "get a life" come to mind?

You have a very vivid imagination. I'm shocked by a lot of what you left-wingers spew, but mostly because of the hypocrisy. Shocked that you talk out of both sides of your mouth. Shocked that you actually believe your own drivel. Shocked that you're actually able to convince lemmings to follow you down the path of left-wing lunacy. But, am I offended? Not in the least. In fact, I enjoy watching you insert your foot into your mouth; it's quite entertaining.

 

But, I do know what the rules are and I have no qualms about pointing out to De Orc and Peter when an egregious abuse of the rules takes place because they can't see everything that is posted. And I feel no pity nor remorse when reporting someone to the owner and moderator of the site when that person breaks the rules. I guess maybe you have less respect for the people who provide this site than I do. Or maybe you are just the type person who would also walk away from abuse in real life too without reporting it. Dunno. Don't care. And I care even less of your opinion of it. I don't make the decision on whether any reports are acted on. If I did, you would have been banned long ago.
