My experience with "the system" may not be gospel but I never claimed it to be anything other than my own experience. My experience with this issue (& every other issue) has helped form my opinion on the subject. Is that any different than anyone else here?
Call it crazy, but I put a whole lot more stock in what I know to be true than what others believe to be true. Remember my background in dealing with the welfare system...I didn't just show up & help out for a day, I have worked in this area for years, have worked with hundreds (thousands?) of families, multiple organizations, multiple programs, multiple jurisdictions. I can assure you, no matter if it's a federal, state, local or church-administered program, fraud & abuse are always a major concern and usually the key factor if something doesn't work.
Now I know it gives libs a warm & fuzzy feeling to know someone else's money is being spent on charitable concerns but it needs to be done with some common sense & accountibility in order to have a real impact on those who need it.

Libs dont give to charity? Thats what you said. And you know this to be true, rather than believe it to be?

    Well folks.

Other than the little jab at libs (because it is much more than just the libs David) I really tend to agree with David on this subject.

I saw it when I worked in an industry that had a lot of welfare recipients as customers.
When you're out busting your butt to make an honest living and you deal with someone on welfare that boasts how they "work the system" it tends to make you a bit angry.
Of course not ALL welfare recipients fall into this group but for those that don't think there are a lot of people that COULD get a job and be a productive member of society you need to open your eyes.

No not all. I just found it amusing. I thought you said you worked with a church and other charitable organizations. Not with public welfare. I dont know if that is done through volunteers. Whats your background on welfare exactly? You sign the checks? Do you get to say who is allowed and who isnt?

You didn't know all of these organizations are intertwined & work together? Or that they share information? Or that people are referred back & forth depending on which group is best able to assist in specific needs? You really didn't know that? At a typical board meeting I may be in a group where some are paid by the federal govn't, some state/local, some by an organization or volunteers (like me).

I do not like it when people boast how they work the system. If you need help that is one thing but if you could get a job then get one!

Thats not always true. You dont know that? There are plenty of people who just collect Government welfare, and do not use private charities. So you have nothing to do with welfare. You are only volunteering your time to local charities, arent you? I dont see how something like Goodwill or the Salvation Army has anything to do with federal government assistance. Please explain. Let me learn from you. And how are you privy to private information such as who is on WIC? And I was talking about those receiving assistance not board members.

Now when did I ever say welfare should be gotten rid of? I'm waiting.

You didnt. My apologies. You just said it should continue by your rules. Like force them to work for it. How does one force another to work for food? With a whip?

No, see you're wrong again. I never said it should continue by my rules. I guess you'll have to apologize again now, won't you? Don't you ever tire of looking like the fool?

You said they should be forced to work for assistance/wefare/foodstamps. That would imply your way of doling out ''other people's money''. That would be how you would do things. That would be your rule. I'm not wrong again. Youre just splitting hairs.

Yes because they are slackers only looking for a government handout that is our tax dollars that are being thrown out the window. I have been in a deep financial holes several times in my life but gave plasma rather than accept food stamps. I always bounce back on my own will and that makes the victory so much sweeter.

So what's wrong with expecting those who receive to give something back? I don't understand your aversion to this premise???????
