When a voted today, about 10:45 local time, I asked the poll worker about turnout...I was surprised she said turnout had been kind of light today.

I'm not surprised. The net effect of all the negative campaigning on both sides is obviously going to be more people being turned off to participating in politics on any level, even simply voting. But, I would guess that's what the Washington Insiders want, the less people participate, the more secure their jobs are.

Well...gave my 9 year old his first lesson in anti republicanism today. Took him with me to vote..let him press the buttons. He asked...who do we vote for? I told him, first, make sure there is no (R) next to the name. He asked why? Told him "because people with the (R) next to their names means republican. He asked "Why because they're bad?" I explained to him that republicans are for the very rich and they only care about people with a lot of money, that they're like the people that run places like Walmart, or McDonalds...they have lots of money, but won't pay the people that work for them very much. He again asked why. I said really rich people are really greedy and care mostly about themselves, that they are the main reason everything costs so much. Then he asked...(from the mouth of babes)..Why don't they share the money with their workers? I told him...greedy people don't share. He said oh. I told him different people believe different things. That's why we vote. Sometimes the greedy people win and sometimes not. He said "Well, when I get to vote, I don't think I am going to vote for the republican person".
    Ahhhh...That's my boy!

Boy, what a depressing post. I'm glad my parents didn't force their beliefs on me! I wouldn't be surprised if this is the day your son looks at you & thinks what a loser and sad little, bitter man you are (if he didn't think that already).
On the other hand, the other day, my 14 year old asked me who "we" were voting for. I used it as a teachable moment and suggested she spend the time to do the research & decide for herself who best represents her views.

Question of the week: Will Tomclown disown his son when he grows up, realizes his dad was completely full of crap, and becomes a republican?

As long as his son does not become successful, their relationship will be fine.

I'm sure tom has set the proper groundwork to assure that won't happen.

From what the poll workers told my wife and I turnout was pretty heavy here.
I had to take my boss to his polling place as he was recently in a pretty bad car accident and can't drive. That parking lot was FULL and I sat in the van for at least half an hour waiting for him.

My wife had an interesting incident. When she was shown "how to vote" the lady explained that the question on the last page was a "trick" question and to just push YES.
    Huh?

My wife called me when she got home to inform me I might be told this same thing. I told her to report it and she was already in the process of doing so. She also described the lady to me.

So I voted after work about 5:15 local time and sure enough the same lady esorted me to the machine. No mention of trick questions or YES.

When I got home I relayed this to my wife. Turns out she had gone back and talked to the Poll Inspector. The Inspector in turn called upon the lady. My wife explained to her that what she had done was a Class A misdemeanor.
She had no clue. She was just trying to be helpful. My wife believed her and told her she was not there to get her in trouble but you just can't do that.
Turns out the lady was grateful as she shook my wife's hand and thanked her.

During the BO Election, I had to stand in line for 30 minutes at 6:00 am.
At the same place, during the primarys, there was no wait at all at 3:30 afternoon.
Today was about a 10 minute wait at 3:30 afternoon......

Of course I voted against McCain and voted Libertarian. What may suprise you, is I did the same in the Gov race, voting for Barry Hess and not Jan Brewer, the 1 issue Rino. I also voted yes on the medical marijuana.

Pretty much, yea. Tom, I think it's just wrong to teach your child to hate like that. I think David is too full of hate too, but in this case I think he got it right. I had a very simliar discussion with my son today when I took him to vote with me. He asked how do I found out about each of the candidates and decide who to vote for and we ended up having a nice discussion about the various websites I read, and about how when I was his age everyone read newspapers.

Not teaching him to hate. I'm giving him my opinions. He will decide for himself. I will of course teach him some things, like, how George lied us all into war. How George turned a surplus into the largest deficit to date at the time. I'll tell him how the right wants to repeal health care (so his 20ish older sister won't have any health care if the republicans get what they want). and things like how the republican president, took our nation to war for nothing, and invaded a country for the first time in our history as a nation...and we attacked them and invaded their country (who didn't attack us and were of no threat whatsoever to us, AND that they had nothing to do with 911. I'll tell him when George left office, the whole economic was on the verge of collapse after 8 years of a republican president. I'll tell him that when Obama got elected (and the republicans were voted out of office, they then pledged NOT to work with the new president AT ALL..I'll tell him that their goal is NOT to cooperate on ANYTHING the new democratic president wants to try and do for the people of our country. I'll ask him if this makes any sense to him. The republicans complain that the debt is too high, they say democrats spend too much and they claim we have to stop the spending. Then I'll tell him the richest people in America want tax break for the top 2% of wealthy people, and this will create a whole bunch of debt, but that they don't care because they want their tax cuts. I'll explain what "hypocrisy" means. Then...when he's a little older, I'll show him the tons of video footage, documentation from professionals that specialize in architecture, fireman, police, scientists, physics professors, saying that what happened that day isn't what we were told. I'll explain how the towers would have had to have been taken down by explosives, and that "terrorists" would not have had access to the elevator/core columns. I'll show him video of molten metal pouring out of the sides of the buildings.

Then....I'll do what you all seem to suggest. I'll let him review whatever he wants and finally tell him that a republican president was in charge and that his brother was head of security for the WTC's and was responsible for who came in and out.
I'll show him buildings falling at free fall speed and let him count how many seconds it takes for the buildings to come completely down. Then maybe we'll do an experiment. Maybe throw a brick off the top of a cliff of equal length of the WTC's, and count how many seconds it took that brick to fall down to earth. Then..I'll ask him..how does a building fall straight down reaching the ground in the same amount of time that it took the brick to reach the ground. I'll ask him..wouldn't there have had to have been some resistance causing to fall a bit slower than a brick that has no resistance? I'll show him video of them reporting WTC7 to have already fallen "live" and as they were doing that, WTC7 stood proudly and plainly over the reporters left shoulder. Then I'll let him make his own judgments. I'll let him see and hear first responders describe in their own words and let him hear the sounds in the video that they too hear. Then...I'll tell him that the republican administration at the time, says that there were no explosions, etc, etc. Then I'll explain the automatic defense procedures (designed to protect our Pentagon) had to have been over ridden/turned off/whatever. I'll tell him how there were NO planes to defend the most secure facility in the country, even though bases were 7 minutes away. I'll show him how the vice president knew the plane was coming into washington and was tracking it all the way in, but did nothing to stop it.
Yeah....basically....I'll show him the truth about the republican party and let him decide if it's all bull. He's a smart kid. I guarantee he'll reach all the obvious conclusions that you people are too afraid too.

Finally...thanks for the loser reference you agreed with Davey on there Peter. I thought you had a little more class than that. My mistake, but perhaps I can repay the favor someday soon...

Oh what's the matter, did the Republicans kick the Democrats ass today? Such a shame, you did all that work on your knees and now they are out of office. So sad!

Peter, I don't hate anyone. This statement is just another of your unfounded accusations. No, it's more than that...it's a flat out lie.

Most of the demos have been thrown out by their ears. So little done, so much to do. I rejoyce.
