Seems Eric Holder addressed a group of supporters last week. In order to gain admittance to the venue the attendees had to to pre-register (probably for a background check) then present a....wait for it...picture ID!!
When asked, an event organizer claimed the ID's were necessary in order to assure that those who had registered & were approved were actually the same people coming through the doors.

OMG! The Voting Rights Act of 1965 probably had very little to do with conferences is my guess but let's compare a conference event to the right to vote.

The lamebrain Right-winger drudge up another false equivalency that stupid people fall for every time. You and rlm seem to be vying for the title of bottom feeder of the year. Voter suppression is all the Right-wingers are interested in and it HAS been proven. They have a long history of voter suppression and this is no different of a tactic than they have used in the past. Go Eric Holder!

In the deposition, released to the press yesterday, Greer (former Florida Republican Party Chairman) mentioned a December 2009 meeting with party officials. “I was upset because the political consultants and staff were talking about voter suppression and keeping blacks from voting,” he said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. He also said party officials discussed how “minority outreach programs were not fit for the Republican Party,” according to the AP.

    And...

House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) suggested that the House’s end game in passing the Voter ID law was to benefit the GOP politically.
“We are focused on making sure that we meet our obligations that we’ve talked about for years,” said Turzai in a speech to [Republican State Committee] members Saturday. He mentioned the law among a laundry list of accomplishments made by the GOP-run legislature.

“Pro-Second Amendment? The Castle Doctrine, it’s done. First pro-life legislation – abortion facility regulations – in 22 years, done. Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done.”

Oh what a surprise! Another vaguely related tangential issue by the reigning idiot of partisan Lines. Although the Supreme Court ruling that the states can require photo ID to vote, nobody here disputed that it was either legal or illegal. What has been admitted though is that the GOP uses such laws to suppress minority voting and you support such suppression of voter rights because democracy is not the goal, power is the goal. And you're an idiot to support such un-American ideals. People like you actually make me ill.
    Good bye retard!

Un-American - You mean like blocking the service members from voting while allowing the aliens to vote. More problematic facts for you. And then there was the black panthers. Good one there. And requiring Florida to clean their voter lists, but withholding the master list. Yep! I get it.

Why do all the libs assume minorities aren't capable of getting picture ID's for themselves? It seems racist to assume minorities are too stupid to figure out how to secure proper ID for something as important as voting....or going to the doctor...or cashing a check...or going to see Eric Holder...

So what's the big deal? I had to show my ID when I voted.

If we buy coins, etc. at work we require that you be at least 21 and have photo ID to prove it. Then we make a COPY of your ID.

He (and Holder i.e. Obama) does not think that the poor have enough sense to get a free ID card. Since they mostly vote Democratic, he is afraid it will hurt the Democratic party.

Now think about that for a moment. He is afraid that the people who don't have enough sense to get an ID might not get to elect his party's candidates. That really speaks well of the candidates when they need the idiots of the world to vote them in.

Same here, but I'm guessing you already know why...the people who are affected are the U.S. version of the "untouchables" of India.

Here, we call them "the poor" but, within this group, most would have little trouble aquiring the necessary ID. But there is also a significant portion who cannot, for one reason or another, aquire it.

In some cases it's simply a matter of "it's not worth the extra trouble", which is their choice of course...but that example is kin to the "soft intimidation" harrassment faced by the Sikh community in recent news.

While it's a good thing to require the IDs to lessen the chance of voter fraud, the reality is it's overkill (remember the numbers rlm and I discussed on Minnesota's proposed law? The term I would use for it is "statistically irrelevant")...and not without the price of convincing some that the effort is not worth it.

The political issue the left is claiming might best be reduced to answering the question of whether or not the Republicans understood that the net-result will be in their favor before proposing these State laws around the country. It's the left's belief that the right knew this would help them win elections, but says (publically) that it will strenghten the integrity of our voting system. The left (and myself included) says it corrupts it.

It basically comes down to whether or not you trust the Republican party to not intentionally "rig" elections in their favor. Strategically, the move is brillant (if true), as long as they never publically admit that. Slips-of-the-tongue have occurred though, most notably the guy who was beaming as he said, in effect: "Thanks to these Voter ID laws, Republicans are going to win!"

So I ask you...What benefit do the Democrats receive by arguing against those ID laws? Corruption of the voting process? A bit like biting the hand that feeds them, IMO...and it's kin to publically saying they're for punching babies lol

So, is it a nefarious plot by the Democrats...or the Republicans? It's one or the other, and it comes down to who is more trust-worthy I guess. You know my opinion lol

I thought about it for a moment. What I concluded was a shame.

It's a shame that you seem to feel that you have to attack anything remotely attached to the Democratic party.

Yes, I'm pulling this out of context here folks.

So what do I make of these statement rlm? That all poor people are idiots? Nice touch dude.

Perhaps some of them can't afford the ride to get an ID. Perhaps some are elderly and have fallen on hard times. Lots of things could be going on.
This all coming from a guy that has no problem with IDs.

Now think about this. Seems to me that you feel anything Democratic party is bad and all poor people are idiots.
Industrial strength blinders to me. Maybe too many arguments with JoeNation?

Now let's touch upon people that DO have ID's. Any idiots in that group that comprises most of the voters? Not to mention the group with IDs that actually hold elected office?

Hell, I work for an idiot with an ID. He loves to spout about people just doing what they always do and just voting straight Democrat. This coming from a guy that just votes straight Republican.

Then there was the time when he actually asked my Libertarian coworker who to vote for.
Huh? He'll spout the crap he hears on right wing radio then ask who to vote for?

I like my job, I generally like my boss, I like the paycheck that doesn't bounce but when it comes to politics I see an idiot with an ID that is not poor.

There are lots of idiots out there and they vote for various politicians.

As for the poor, see above. As for the Democratic party, I think is more politics I hate. Believe me, if there were an alternative out there to either that I would not be wasting my vote on, they would get my vote in a flash..

To give you some basics of my beliefs,:
    1) I believe that raising taxes will hurt the economy at least at this stage.
    2) I believe that public service unions are the same as the fox watching the hens.
    3) I believe that reducing welfare to its minimum will create a better society. i.e. giving people fish to eat only makes them want more fish to eat. Teaching them to fish makes them productive and happier.

Now, each and every one of those comes directly from the Democratic party - just not the current Democratic party. And, yes, I have voted for Democrats - several of them. The last I heard Teddy has not yet voted for a Republican. Now just which one of us is so partisan?

...but if you read it in context you will see the point. The lefties scream that requiring an ID is discriminatory towards minorities. Why do you guys think minorities aren't capable of securing a proper ID? Afterall, you need one to hear Holder speak, you need one for the doctor's office, you need one at the banks & apparently you also need one at your coin shop. I, for one, believe a minority is every bit as capable of getting an ID as you or I.

Obama is not going to win Florida unless the democratic machine gets illegals and convicted felons out to vote.

As for ID, how can any democracy not have an ID to ensure one vote one person and that person is the person who is qualified to vote

Those are the only talking points they have - total lies. Just like BO says Romney's tax plan will increase the tax burden on middle Americans by $2,000. Really interesting especially since Romney has not yet released any tax plan.
