I would like to thank all of our Heroes for their service. Their dedication and sacrifices have kept this country safe and defended the vulnerable worldwide. We can banter about political views here only because of the freedoms they fought to protect.
I joined the Army in 1977. It wasn’t a great patriotic calling on my part or anything. I had fathered a child and needed an income. I did end up making the best of it. Gave two tours of duty and did spend some time on the Army color guard….. But it was a peacetime Army. I have met some of the young men that have sacrificed limbs to faceless coward terrorists. One of the great honors in my life was meeting Kyle Carpenter. A dashing young man from my little berg. He threw his body on a live grenade and saved his platoon. He survived and was awarded the Medal of Honor. He also sacrificed his dashingly handsome good looks. Yet that young man was the most humble young man I believe I had ever met….. I do appreciate hearing thanks for my service. But the real thanks goes to these fine young men and women that have truly sacrificed of themselves. And mostly to young Kyle Carpenter. A young man that makes this world a truly a better place just by being here.
Thank you for your service MD. Please Thank Kyle Carpenter for me too if you have the opportunity. He is a Hero!
Thanks to Kyle and so many more who knew what they were protecting, what they were risking, and who, despite our safe and comfortable gestures, we can never adequately repay. Thank you too, MD.
