    Moen1305 Not Republican!

Do you remember in 2004 when they had that terrible tsunami and title wave in the Indian Ocean? Muslim extremists were running around telling people that the U.S. had some sort of technology that they tested and caused the disaster? We really are one world. They have their brand of whack-a-doodles and we have ours. The only difference is ours have access to the internet and post RW nonsense on sites like this one.

If a republican was president cnn, msn, etc...would have blamed it on him or her. Remember how Bush was blamed from hurricanes to global warming.

I don't really, but I'm not doubting it. The results in my search looked like people being sarcastic, and I don't doubt that people were sarcasticly calling Jr. responsible for hurricanes and such too back then.

But sarcasm isn't what you meant in Jr.'s case, you're talking specifics about global warming connections to Jr.'s policies... and I can see how others made that connection back then too, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he's directly responsible (as they may have suggested back then) any more or less than anyone else is... unless you consider pollution standards. In that sense I'd agree with them somewhat, considering that his administration reportedly thanked Exxon for their contributions to global warming. More sarcasm? ;)

Did Bush give Obama the keys to HARP? Is it true that Justin Beiber was quoted as saying 'Barrack Obama does not care about white people'. Will Paul Harvey come back from the dead to give us the rest of the story?

    Stay tuned...

Actually 'most' has become 'all', if there is any money given by the Feds at all.

Just an update on the town that I was referencing in these posts that was hit by one of the tornadoes. 7 deaths and lots of damage. FEMA has denied all individual assistance. Meaning no money for any individuals at all to help them with anything.

So, whether they believe in personal responsibility and self reliance or not, it is all they are going to have to help rebuild their lives. That and some private and religious donations.

And this is in a town with a median household income of $28,859. The US average is $44389. Median house value in the town is $60k. US Median House Value is around $155K. So these aren't exactly 1%ers we are talking about. Heck, if they had been 1%ers, they'd probably be getting assistance since I believe it is based upon total value destroyed. Easier to get to that value at $500K per house than at $60K per house.

And today FEMA just started evaluating the assistance that may be awarded to the city for rebuilding infrastructure. Too soon to tell if the city will get any of that but I assume it will get something. Or not.

Well one can only hope not. Why should federal tax money go to rebuild their municipal infrastructure? If they can't do it themselves maybe they should appeal to a higher power. Have they tried prayer? It's supposed to work wonders.

It appears that prayer is the only thing keeping them going. Prayer and self-reliance.

You do mention "treatment" quite often Davey. You okay? I don't really care actually...I'm just looking to reinforce my stereotypical beliefs about the right, and you are always willing to help out.

Maybe because even most extremists believe that infrastructure is a function of government. And maybe because the Feds sucked out 135 billion dollars from Illinois last year.

Just a fun fact (not related to public infrastructure) - $575M (which is quite a bit less than $135 Billion, BTW) could buy every man, woman and child in the entire town a house valued at the median home value for the town.

Maybe it does. Churches and other religious organizations have certainly given more assistance to them than the feds. Maybe that is why they have more faith in those things than in the federal government.

Where does it say in the Constitution that the Federal Government is responsible for local infrastructure? This is clearly a Socialist myth that has been foisted onto the country at large. I'm surprised that even people like you and Larry and Curly Joe there there seem to think that this is okay

The same place it says everyone has to have heath insurance - only the former has been ruled constitutional.

But, it's so wrong. I hope the Teabaggers are on this. The ones who aren't too busy asking for someone to help them that is.

"the former has been ruled constitutional" is wrong? That means your god have been violating the constitution, but I guess that is just SOP.

I have no objection to the gov't offering assistance in areas devastated by disaster....that role is quite a bit different than the gov't interjecting itself into my healthcare or contract negotiations relating to my personal finances.

Keep trying. You'll figure it out. Or not. I didn't intend for it to be at all challenging. It was really only a comment. Just goes to show you.

Because that is what you want the government to do, isn't it? What else is mandated health care? Welfare? bailouts? Even the current tax system to a great extent?
