I think we are seeing the dawn of the global resource wars being played out. This could get rather nasty. Wait until we come up with some alternative to patroleum and ethanol. We'll start wars to prevent other poor counties from burning fuel we once used and make them dependent on us once more. We will use the excuse that burning patroleum is bad for our environment and therefore it is reason enough to go to war over.

 

Brazil is exporting its knowladge not just to the big spenders but also to a number of third world nations.

 

I think it would be awsome if we could come up with and switch to some (magic and unknown) fuel source that would lessen or eliminate the need for mid-east Liquid gold...

That would make them suddenly a lot less important in the world or atleast ours...

Coal-to-liquid fuel technology currently produced on a large scale by Sasol, and biodeisel are two possibilities. Corn ethanol looks like a loser in the long run.

Near my home we have a biodeisel plant, and an ethanol plant, both of which are putting out massive amounts of product. We need more though, alot more.

Visit Brazil and you will see it in every day use at garages and it has been so for about the past 30 or so years. If we can take the dependence on Oil away from the equasion then we are one step closer to defeating these creatures by remove there wealth. India is the latest country to seek aid from the Brazilians in the production of ethanol.

 

The big oil companies keep it away from many pumps, and off of advertisement. We should all put pressure on the government to help make a change.
