No surprise that Putin is still in power. What is nice is to see how many people in Russia are learning what democracy is suppose to be. Democracy takes a long time to grow. Just look at our own US timeline from independence to ending slavery to women getting the vote to the equal rights movements of the last forty years. If Russia stays on course I think they will get there. Hopefully, by then they will not be the only world power democracy.

Putin grabs the power again? No surprise. He is one determined little man... and I'd hate to be in his way. You don't live long when you're in his way.

As strange as it sounds, if things progress people might be debating if Putin was the best thing that happen to Russia. That is if he realized his transition phase needs to be over after this cycle of power and he allows more grass roots democracy to grow as he protects the emerging middle class. Mind you, we are talking about a military power that has been close to a train wreck since the guy with the mark on his head.

The military are certainly a key sticking-point in any realistic grass roots movement there. If the military backs the people, the leadership in the rest of the government has little choice but to move in the direction that satisfies the people. The problem is, when the military cares nothing for the people, it's a slaughter house... as in Libya. Egypt could have easily been one, but they seemed more confused about the hubbub then anything else. In Russia, I believe the military is much less inclined to put up with extended periods of hubbub lol

Even taking into account the rather blatant voter fraud the International observers say Putin would still have won convincingly, most Russians like the man he is seen as strong and putting Russia first
