Ah... but you forget the "Patriot Act" and whatever comes after it... the denunciations of neighbors, parents, and co-workers for saying the wrong thing at the dinner table or around the water cooler. The disappearances and the "extrajudicial killings". Your actions and attitudes will bring that here, and if that happens even you may not escape the long arm of tyrrany, though you opened the door to torture in the mistaken thought only to do good. Please read the initial quote from Paine again. It is right on.
Finally found one of Paine's quotes that was written with you in mind. Here it is: To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead. Thomas Paine
What is it we would be defending if we gave up what this nation stands for? The price we'd have to pay in your scenario is too high. I find it strange that people will throw away everything this nation has stood for in order to defend it. What kind of logic could possibly bring a rational person to that kind of conclusion? Are freedom and liberty such fragile ideas that they are tossed aside at the first threat that appears on the horizon? It just seems like cowardice to me to even think this way. I have never thought of this nation as a afraid of anything but I am beginning to see that there are some among us that can't stomach the consequences of what it will take to preserve our way of life. It won't be easy to both defend our way of life and root out those that would try to harm us but I am unwilling to change into the enemy to defeat him. If I were going to do that, why wouldn't I just go help the enemy? In the end, it's the same difference.
MK Gandhi did more of shaming Britain government during satyagraha campaign with passive resistance than any violence would have done. When MK Gandhi travel to Britain for Commonwealth meeting in 1931 he received everywhere with accolades of hero, except British government. Even factory workers hurt by campaign of homespun clothe made in India instaed of Britain cheer him as hero. So build schools, educate people of Middle East, help people and be hero, not agressor.
I have wonder how many Americans even hear of Thomas Paine, an Englishmen and stiror of revolution and right of man in America, Britain and France? Not so much heroes G Washington, or his kind but more of T. Paine, and T. Jefferson who men were ahead of time in thinking of individaul liberty.
My guess that 3300 of your countrymen come home in box not enough yet? I used think USA valued life of people more than other countrys but late I wonder if not anymore?
I would like to remind you that wars are like a baseball game, wars are not over till they are over. Wars don't run on a clock like football. No previous generation was so hopelessly unrealistic that this had to be explained to them. There are no automatic time-outs or magic numbers that give either side a cut off.
I used to think a lot things about this country that I have had to question lately. Being leary of the government's intentions is an American passtime but you used to be able to count on your fellow citizens to know the difference between dictators, kings, and honorable public servants. It seems like today a good portion of the the American public is racing towards a fascist style government out of fear. The simple lessons of Animal Farm by George Orwell seem to have been lost on many of these illiterate rubes. Give them NASCAR, Britney Spears, and McDonalds and they don't have to think about more weighty issues that affect their lives in very real ways. The dumbing down of the American electorate is all but complete. God, if you're really up there, save us from ourselves.
Sadly, in Korea and WWII there were days when the death toll was over ONE THOUSAND killed and Ten Thousand US Troops wounded. But, you're right that was a long time ago and doesn't apply to us now. We're modern, young, and know better. HA...
You forgot to thank the NEA for most of this 'dumbing down' issue. But you won't do that because you are in too tight with that bunch of loosers.
Which is why Bush, note not send daughters fight, but send son and daughter everybody else over to sacrifice in crusade of 21st century. I hope American learn of this insurgent war of Vietname, with USSR experience of Afghan Republic, but obviously Bush sit on his brain instaed of use it. Thousands Iraqis die every month, big suicide bomb in Bagdad just today kill many. But no, it not civil war, but sporadic violents. Meanwhile in Kansas state where tornado destroy town, not any national militia from Kansas there, because all of in Iraq where they be targets opportunity for Islamic murderers.
You know not history, you condemned repeat it. Note that casualties of American army in Iraq not go down, but only go up upupup:secret:
National Guard Responds to Kansas Tornado By Sgt. Sara Wood, USA American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, May 7, 2007 – More than 300 members of the Kansas National Guard have been activated in response to a powerful tornado that almost destroyed the town of Greensburg, Kan., May 4. Guard members are assisting in search-and-rescue efforts in the wake of the tornado, which was classified as an F-5, the highest rating given by the National Weather Service. The tornado wiped out much of the small town, knocking out power, water, natural gas and communications. To date, 10 deaths and more than 100 injuries have been reported. The Kansas National Guard’s 278th Sustainment Brigade has established a joint task force near the incident site. In addition to search-and-rescue efforts, the troops are working on power generation, logistical support, debris clearing, support to law enforcement, supporting establishment of shelters and distribution of food and water. Currently, the Kansas National Guard has 88 percent of its forces available, 60 percent of its Army Guard dual-use equipment on hand, and more than 85 percent of its Air Guard equipment on hand, said Randal Noller, public affairs officer for the National Guard Bureau. Under the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, which is a national partnership agreement that allows state-to-state assistance during governor or federally declared emergencies, Kansas has more than 400,000 Guardsmen available to it, he pointed out. However, Kansas has not yet requested assistance from other states. The National Guard Bureau has offered liaison, operational, communications, contracting, search-and-rescue, public affairs and community relations support, and is prepared to support the governor in any way possible, Noller said. The National Guard also has been activated in response to other severe weather in the Midwest. In South Dakota, 27 Guardsmen were activated in response to severe storms that moved through the region yesterday, destroying high voltage transmission lines and power poles and leaving several thousand customers without electricity. The Guard troops are transporting water pumps and generators and providing sandbags to prevent flooding. In response to heavy rainfall last night and today, the Iowa National Guard deployed 47 troops in support of local authorities to assist in sandbagging operations in the city of Red Oak, Iowa. Iowa National Guard troops worked with civilian first responders moving sand, filling sand bags and building temporary dams to mitigate the effects of the rising waters.
Attention everyone, we have in our midst the one and only New York City spelling champion. Arent' we lucky?
Thanks ya, thank ya. I was only trying to help you. Just a little ironic that you would misspell a word in conjuction with the dumbing down of America.
