http://goodmenproject.com/2010/10/23/confronting-life/ I don't dislike them because they're against abortion, its because they're terrorists.
Abortion is a medical procedure that is both safe and legal. It's Christians that should be outlawed. They make the lives of people that already exist a living hell in order to defend people that don't exist yet.
Say something like that against any other group, especially muslims, and dr moen and the liberals would go balistic.
I couldn't have said this better.... The most telling thing about their cowardice is when the woman on the right gets upset that I’m recording the conversation (which is perfectly legal) and then threatens to call the police. The irony is rich. She wanted to call the police because I was peacefully expressing my opinion on a public sidewalk and exercising my First Amendment rights, which is exactly what she was doing.
What is a real Christian if you don't mind me asking? Is it a devout Roman Catholic or just a right wing evangelical?
Hope your not talking about me, I am an agnostic. I don't know what you are trying to say Moen. Can you please stop being cryptic and just say what you have to say!
It's just no fun when you have to spell everything out but here goes.... If you believe the definition of "Christian" as the bible defines it, you can't help but feel that those people calling themselves Christians today are some of least Christian-like people around.
You're almost right. The only thing I would change from your sentence is to say add only " ... that TOO MANY of those people calling themselves Christians are some of the least Christian-like people out around." There are a few Christians about. Not as many as I would like, nor as many as the total church membership would indicate. Being a true Christian is to be a representative on earth of the Kingdom of Heaven revealed in Jesus Christ. That means challenging the pre-suppositions of those who like living in this earthly kingdom. So a true Christian should be defined as neither conservative or liberal, because both sides find comfort in the earthly kingdom. Remember, it was Jesus who said that "you will be mocked in my name." The context of that statement in the Bible implies that Christians will be mocked by ALL (right and left).
Jesus said a lot of things. Every thing he said has been twisted, reinterpreted, and just plain *******ize by one Christian religion after another. All of them claim to be the one true "word" of God. Malarkey! They all have in common their fictitious beliefs in their own moral infallibility and their absolute belief systems even though many of them have belonged to several different religions throughout their lives. Religious movements insulate themselves with quotes such as "you will be mocked in my name" and the concept of "faith over knowledge" because anyone who questions isn't a true believer and therefore outside of the cult of believers. Yeah, religion has all the answers but never can quite say why so many religions have come and gone believing all the same things. There are 10 times more religions that have been forgotten than exist today and the ones that exist today will be forgotten when new ones replace them. Why waste time on any of them?
I am a Christian. I live my life, the way I best know how, and to the best of my abilities. I try to make well informed decisions on all matters, using factual information, religion, common sense, and what is in my heart. I am not for abortion. Not entirely anyways. I believe that if two people, young or old decide to go on in having a child, accidental or not, that is their choice, they have to live with. They went against their better judgement and they should have to suffer the consequences of it. There are different situations though, not all of which involve irresponsible decisions. There could be a happily married couple, having a planned child. They have an ultrasound, blood tests, etc, whatever kind of standard tests there are that come along with any type of pregnancy. Now, let's say something goes wrong. The baby has a rare disease or there is a problem in development to where the child will have NO chance of survival or a normal life after childbirth. The child will eventually die at or during childbirth and even if he doesn't die, yourself, your partner, and your whole entire family will face the burden of this child. Not only that but the child has to suffer as well. That is not fair to either party. Once again, I'm not for abortion, but I can understand why it is done, in some cases.
Most of what you write sounds a lot like live and let live. I can agree with most of what you've penned with one caveat. You wrote, "I believe that if two people, young or old decide to go on in having a child, accidental or not, that is their choice, they have to live with. They went against their better judgement and they should have to suffer the consequences of it." You are first saying "that is their choice" and that "they have to live with [it]". All fine and good but then you say, "They went against their better judgement and they should have to suffer the consequences of it". Never mind that getting pregnant isn't always a choice such as in the case of rape or incest, but how can you say on the one hand that they should have a choice and in the very next sentence say that they should have to suffer because you don't believe that they should have the choice to have an abortion? That just makes no sense. You contradict yourself by purporting to give them a choice and then by taking that choice away from them. Do you not see what a false dichotomy that is?
Yes, you got me, I'm sorry that wasn't very clear. My intent wasn't to be unfair. I think the scenario I was trying to paint were two adults as a couple, and not other cases such as rape. If a couple decides to have sex, unprotected, knowing full well what the consequences are, that was their decision to be irresponsible. If a child is conceived, then a child is conceived. They have the choice of getting an abortion, although this is the case of abortion in which I, and many other Christians would frown upon. I will silently frown upon it though, and if someone asks for my opinion on the situation I will tell them. I think that a lot of Christians are too "In Your Face," about things like this. Sure abortion is wrong, in the above situation, but a situation similar to what was in my original post in my eyes is not wrong. Some Christians hear abortion and they just jump the gun, and it gets their blood boiling. Each scenario has to be assessed on a case by case basis.
Not to hijack the thread, but it the above is true (and I have no reason to doubt that it isn't at this point), have you checked out 9/11 to any degree? If so, what is your opinion as to the government's accounting of the incident? Just curious. I might feature you in my upcoming book on the subject.
