Does it seem like the no matter what the issue, the Right will almost always argue for the Status Quo? No matter what the problem is, it is fine the way it is. No matter the consequences of doing nothing, the status quo is better than any change proposed. No matter how simple or beneficial any solution might be, the status quo is always preferred. Is this a failure of imagination or a cynical attempt to keep themselves on top of the economic social ladder? Arguing to preserve the status quo is usually done in the context of opposing a large, often radical change. The social movement is an example of the status quo being challenged. The term frequently refers to the status of a large issue, such as the current culture or social climate of an entire society or nation. Politicians sometimes refer to a status quo. Often there is a policy of deliberate ambiguity, referring to the status quo rather than formalizing the status. Clark Kerr is reported to have said, "The status quo is the only solution that cannot be vetoed," meaning that the status quo cannot simply be decided against; action must be taken if it is to change.
Rather than blaming the GOP, why don't you blame our system of government. Our system was designed so that opposing opinions would collide causing the elimination of radical ideas and a gravitation towards centrist principles which usually results in the status quo.
Taking the Republican and Democrat specifics out of the conversation, I think any conservative movement is just a restrictor valve on society. It never stops anything but it slows things down and, in some cases, that can be a good thing. It allows for change to be more easily and smoothly integrated an d assimilated into society without as much shock to the overall system. Kind of like a child sitting in front of a candy bowl on Halloween. The parent is the restrictor valve that slows the process down, checks for dangers and keeps the child from gorging until he throws up. The kid is probably going to eat most of the candy eventually anyway but it is best that he doesn't eat it all at once.
