You and I are in complete agreement. However, there are a couple of liberals on this forum who believe otherwise. I don't know what it will take to convince them that depriving Americans of due process is unconstitutional. http://www.partisanlines.com/threads/those-damn-liberals-at-nbc.50055/
There are several people who are saying that Bergdahl did EXACTLY that by joining the Taliban. If (and there's that pesky word "IF" again) that's true, should Bergdahl "suffer the same consequences" as the terrorists?
So, you'd like for a citizen of the US to be killed by the government because of not only your suspicions, but because of the suspicions of some other citizens. That isn't any sort of improvement in your position. Yet your posts implied unequivocally that you thought the proper course of action would be to kill Bergdahl (with no trial of any kind) rather than extricate him. You're willing to bet somebody else's life on what you suspect some other people have "proof" of. It's a good thing that your influence on the situation is limited to making asinine comments on an obscure political forum. It seems like you love to throw out statements like that, but you've never once managed to support any of them. Go on then--show where my interpretation of the Constitution has been proven wrong. I don't need a "clue," I have the evidence in black and white: You've advocated that the United States govenment ignore the due process clauses of both the 5th and the 14th Amendments to the Constitution, and kill one of its citizens without trial.
Too bad you can't read; Washington, Jackson, Taylor, Lincoln, Grant, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Bush, Obama, to name a few are all free men. Again, I never said any such thing, but I do hold that it does not apply to those supporting out enemies at war. It would not be fun if a soldier got shot at and he had to say "Time out!. Are you an American?" War does not work that way. Try reading Mathews v. Eldridge, and al-Aulaqi v. Obama.
Random thoughts... I bet the government (dod, cia, state dept, etc) knows exactly what the the circumstances were of how this guy ended up with the Taliban. I further bet there is a file 6 inches thick or more on the guy and his actions prior to and since 2009. I do view this as more of a Prisoner Swap than a Negotiation with Terrorists deal. Still can be a dangerous plan but I do hope we monitor these guys and the first time they meet with someone linked to a terrorist group that we do everything in our power to take them out. If they just go back to being Talibanis, they will be Afghanistan's problem more than ours. If this guy did leave voluntarily, I hope he is prosecuted and sentenced. I do not for one second buy into the 'time served' argument. Innocent until proven guilty and all that but my gut says it is highly unlikely he was taken from his post.
Seems there may have been "threats" toward his family. http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/07/us/sgt-bowe-bergdahl-controversy/ Pathetic and despicable if true.
Agreed. Now that he's been rescued (or captured, as the case may be) and will eventually be returning to this country, our system of government should be allowed to prosecute him, if facts warrant. Anyone making threats toward Bergdahl or his family are waaaaaay out of line.
That's an interesting perspective given everything the Right-wing media is saying and has said about Bergdahl. While I completely agree with you, even you have to recognize that is not the message coming from the Right wing at this moment. Yet, I don't hear you condemning them for their stance. Hum? Seems to me that when you find yourself at odds with your own side, you lack the ability to be honest, courageous, or show any character what so ever. You simply have to keep one foot on bullshit mountain even if you know you are standing on manure. What does that say about you? Let me tell you, it says plenty about both your schizophrenia and the GOP's schizophrenia. Plenty!
But that is exactly the message I have heard coming from the media. Since you repeatedly have stated that you don't listen to the "right wing" media, I have no idea how you can say what they are doing/saying.
