News organizations or media outlets have always had some sort of "slant" primarily to differentiate themselves from the other news organizations and of course capture the greatest audience. Nothing new about that. Facts were never really the issue but rather the light in which they were presented in was an indication of a particular media organization's bent. Then along came the Right wing media assault on our intelligence. The most powerful Right wing organization in this country is no longer the GOP but its surrogate Fox News and it's associate Rasmussen. Together, these two entities have created a parallel universe of truth that is routinely in the business of contradicting reality or presenting reality minus any objectivity or messy contradictory facts that don't support their Right wing agenda. Why should I or anyone else care that Fox or anyone else treats the truth as a redheaded step child? The answer is simple. Perception IS reality. If enough people believe enough lies, told enough times, in spite of the obvious contradictions, a parallel reality is created in which we, the American public, are the ultimate victims. Even if I chose not to pay any attention to any type of Right wing propaganda, just living within a population that is so easy to manipulate, I am subjected to the social forces just as much as those that have bought into the propaganda. Just as many Germans were forced into going along with the Nazis prior to WWII, a relatively small number of social movement conservatives could bring about the same type of social upheavals that saw over 11 millions ethnic minorities and Jews murdered before it all came to an end at the hands of the Allied forces. Lets learn from history and start demanding truth in our media outlets and not just accepting what we are being told because it is in line with what we already believe and for God’s sake start questioning what you are hearing.
I don't watch national network news so I really can't comment much on lies that Fox is often accused of. I'd be interested in reading the lies if they are posted, though. But, I am not talking about the 'pundits', party 'analysts' and , morning, entertainment, talk, etc shows that abound on the news channels these days, though. I consider what is said there to be typically all lies by default. I am talking about in the actual, regular newscasts...if those even exist on the news networks any more.
We are being ruled by a minority. "The number of Americans identifying themselves as conservative or very conservative stands at 42 percent according to new Gallup numbers. That's compared to 35 percent who describes themselves as moderate and 20 percent who describe themselves as liberal. The results are based on eight Gallup surveys conducted over the past six months. "According to Gallup's Lydia Saad: 'The 42% identifying as conservative represents a continuation of the slight but statistically significant edge conservatives achieved over moderates in 2009. Should that figure hold for all of 2010, it would represent the highest annual percentage identifying as conservative in Gallup's history of measuring ideology with this wording, dating to 1992.’
And yet the ranks of the GOP are shrinking. There is a youth vacuum in the GOP that is forcing Republicans to change the name to the Grand Old Peoples party. Minorities which are making up increasing numbers of the population are almost nonexistent in the ranks of the GOP. People do get more conservative in hard times but this hasn't benefited the Republican party. So who is really the minority in this country?
WRONG!!!!!! One merely has to look at the results of the most recent elections to see where favor is shifting. What is BO's record in the various races he has chimed in on? 0 for 3 in governor races? Virginia? Mass? NJ? His boy Specter being defeated in PA by a dem who campaigned against BO's liberal agenda? Kinda hard to believe dr moen when he makes statements that are so blatantly false...I guess he thinks we're all like his students & forced to hang on his every word.
Gallup says so.......... http://www.gallup.com/poll/141032/2010-Conservatives-Outnumber-Moderates-Liberals.aspx .......read it for yourself mr.minority
Let's think about this further.....if, as dr moen claims, all conservatives are old folks wouldn't they be dying off at a higher rate? Yet the numbers are increasing? Hmmm, the only explanation therefore would have to be that more new conservatives are joining their ranks, right? Where are these new conservatives coming from? Common sense would dictate they have to be younger folks & minorities. Sorry, dr moen, you just didn't think this one through now, did you?
I think the big problem with that poll, and the labels in general is that while the people who consider themselves Liberal, or Moderate, are fairly consistent in their beliefs and political opinions, there are some significant inconsistencies among the people who label themselves Conservative. There is some overlap, but I see three main groups inside the Conservative label. First, are the true conservatives. Conservative in the meaning of 'let's keep things as the founding fathers meant it to be' and have less government. The other two groups I don't really consider conservative at all, even though they label themselves as such. They are the Religious Right and the fringe (call them what you want, Neocons, Tea Baggers, whatever). The true Conservatives have more in common with the Moderates than they have with the Religious Right and the Neocons, but for whatever reason these three groups have teamed up in the Republican party. I personally would like to see the Republican party go back to just true Conservatives and Moderates, but I don't see that happening. They've already gotten the Moderates out of the party, next I guess is the true Conservatives, then all that's left is the crazies.
I think the republican party has alienated the grass roots members of the party with a consistent inability to present any candidates of substance. I used to call myself a republican, but my observations are the minute anyone attains office bang, everything is out the window, forget the campaign promises and back to business as usual. I dont recall any true republicans after Ronald Regan. I wish one would appear. Steve
I was a lifelong registered Republican until W's 2nd term, then I went to Indy. The ONLY thing W did that was conservative was his tax cuts and 2 SCOTUS appointees.....other than that he was a flaming progressive. I now had to change back to Repo so I can vote against McCain in the AZ senate primary. The left attacks FOX because it is the only true source of news, obviously they weren't watching it, just reading Huffy or Koz. They lean right, but do report on everything , even W's bullcrap spending, Medicade II, openborders, Dubai ports fiasco, etc etc. Hey lefties, where are the daily war body counts on your television these days? The pain at the pump stories ? Chris Matthews says on the air he forgets BO is black, gets tingles, lol. Rasmussen was good as long as he was polling BO to win, but now......whatever. He is the most consistantly accurate poller out there.....debunk that.....
Fricking hilarious how everyone bickers back and forth between the left and right. See this video to break your thinking for a moment: It is like having a never ending circle, there is always the Left did this, or right did this, but they contradict this, and they said this this and this. But in the end what does it mean? And then what happens? New ideas and beliefs come out, looking to steer away from current trend of BS and it gets classified into the left or right. Like you got tea parties now, sara palin jumps in and OOOOP tea party folks are automatic republicans. You could ask some of these folks hey are you right/republican and they would deny or say hell no! People are worried, they have concerns, they are scared, and they get blackballed by being called racists, ignorant, or cooks/nutjobs to disqualify anything they have to say when they may in fact have a valid concern. And whats beautiful about human beings, being that we are free thinkers, we just believe everything we hear and do not question or research anything. We repeat word for word terms and propaganda used by what we see on tv. Oh hey thats socialism, too bad nobody knows WTF socialism really is otherwise they wouldnt be repeating that damn term so much. How about fascism? WTF IS FASCISM? Hitler was a socialist, this is looking like nazi germany..etc etc repeating propaganda. Excerpt : The most important new fascist regime was Nazi Germany, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism Anybody care to read anything at all? Or would we rather just rinse and repeat terms whilst watching reality TV shows? Instead of working together as a group of people against the corruption, to properly create a solution(not just automatically going with any single decision) everyone has a gun to everyone elses head threatening to pull the trigger cause they are evil/wrong. And nobody knows any wiser that they are further adding to the division of the people
Perhaps we should refer to tomc as our resident "pawn star"? He is able to recite the far left hyperbole right on cue and seems comfortable being their pawn.
I'd say as depicted in Aaron Russo's film expresses my views and perceptions on that corporate trait rather well.
