The other side of New Orleans

So that means that you will defend the political machine that runs corrupt New Orleans, if so then you have no right to complain about their police.

I believe that most of the democrat rank and file disagree with the leaders of their party but if they say anything then they will lose the party's support to stay in office. Just look at that vote on Iraq a couple of days ago. There is a few ways to take it and every way tends to support my views on the current "democrat leadership".

Now of course leftwingers will love the leadership for the leadership is leftwing at best.

 

Danr you drive me crazy on some of the issues that you defend or propose but like I said before I can respect you for you do change your mind at times, as do I, and you are not afraid to leave the domain of the far left on issues that you differ with them on.

 

I think some of the problem is the idiot Mayor hiring thugs and friends. I would love to see the qualifications of each police officer besides "served his sentence for armed robbery without problem..." BTW, Nagin lives in Dallas, LOL

If that is the "logical" leap you can conclude from my statements, you go with it Andy. I've noticed in many of your posts (and you should go back and read them) that you begin with a sentence that is supposed to make a logical inference from the previous post but rarely does. I'm guessing logic isn't really your strong suit. Your conclusions are merely pathetic attempts to espouse your biased opinions erroneously packaged as "logical" inferences. Give it a rest Andy.

 

I am not really changing my mind here. I have not been for the rebuild.
As for the far left I do share some common ground with them but I also am in favor of gun rights and I would probably vote McCain for pres (I do vote for him for senate).

I have enough logic to know that if the media is saying that there are tens of thousands of dead bodies floating in the streets of New Orleans and that helicopters are flying over that city then there should be film of it. I also have enough logic to know that if the media helicopters are flying over New Orleans and they see that there are "no" tens of thousands of dead bodies floating then they are knowingly reporting a lie.

Now I figure I must be making some strong points for whenever I post facts that make the left look like what it is, I usually just get attacked and the points were ignored. "The left is a closed minded animal that often eats its own". The great purges all happened in communist or socialist dictatorship nations.


Note: I have posted alot of times that I am not happy with Bush on his spending, his open borders, with not responding proactively to the left's lies, and with fighting the war in Iraq "politically correct" instead as a war.
And guess what, I was not slammed once by anyone from the center or the right after any of these posts.

I would never blast anyone for changing their mind on the issue, if the change of mind was based upon changing times, new information, etc..
I have posted myself that over time I have changed my mind on a few key issues yet I feel that my core being is still the same. Things change and we have to change with them at times.
As for democrats, I honestly hope for a strong centralist to emerge and take that party back to the greatness that it once was. This country needs two strong and strong willed political parties for survival. I have made this type of post many times. I do not vote for only one party regardless of what that party does for it is "my party". That type of thinking, in my view, leads to absolute corruption like the democrat machine in New Orleans and to an extent, Lousiania.

 

Moen I do hope that he is ok and has no lasting ill effects, I also have to say it matters not if he did anything any how, In the 1st place Police Officers are meant to be trained in restraining violent offenders with a minimum of harm Well at least they are in the UK and I would imagine the same goes for the US. Also they do use Tazers I believe, so why beat someone? if we are to support the rule of law and those who have the job of enforcing it then suerly we can expect that they behave in a reasanable manner?

Thank you De Orc. I found the Bobbies in the UK to be unbelievably restrained when it came to the use of physical force. It isn't that way here I'm afraid. I had a friend that was a LA policeman for a while and he had to quite because he wasn't willing to abuse people and the other cops didn't trust him not to turn them in to internal affairs. On the other hand, I feel my local police are wonderful folks. They coach the kid’s baseball games, they are good neighbors and they stay within the limits of the law. Big city cops are just nasty. I guess they face much tougher characters and see the scum of the earth far more often. But in this country, we expect them to act within the bounds of the law. The police culture isn't always what we want but we seem to tolerate it until we become the victims of their corrupt tactics. Then we get outraged.

New Orleans Police haunted by corruption

An investigation is underway by the FBI as agents look into massive corruption on the state and local levels in the New Orleans Police Department, according to Fox News.

Police Chief Eddie Compass suddenly resigned on Tuesday asking media interests to respect his right to privacy, but it appears that the former New Orleans cop has a lot of explaining to do.

"It's pretty much always been known, but never openly acknowledged, that NOPD's actual numbers were far below the "official" figure of 1500 - 1700," says the Fox News source.

The number of officers that actually are employed by the department are around 900 to 1,000. The question now remains...where was all of that salary money going to?

The FBI began investigating the New Orleans police who had abandoned their post during Katrina and of the more than 500 screened so far, 84-percent don't exist.

"I served this department for 26 years and have taken it through some of the toughest times of its history. Every man in a leadership position must know when it's time to hand over the reins," says Compass at a news conference.

The investigation is widening on Wednesday to include New Orleans Police Foundation and Elodia Blanco for hiring practices as well.

Corruption was wide-spread during the Katrina aftermath as New Orleans police officers were seen looting shopping centers and filling shopping carts with shoes, clothing, and electronics.

Mayor Ray Nagin was also questioned about allowing a large number of unnamed police officers to go to Las Vegas for rest and relaxation once the military arrived to take over the city. But a problem for the mayor rose when questioned who those officers were and how they could be contacted. Nagin did not have specific names to give.

Several middle ranking police officers committed suicide after the Katrina debacle, Nagin and Compass believe it was due to trauma and exhaustion from the storm but officials are looking into whether or not it might have been related to fear of being caught in a payroll scandal, AHN reports.

I don't think it would tell you anything, neccessarily. Does a certain political party tend to make a city corrupt, or do people in corrupt cities tend to vote for certain political parties? What if they vote for a certain political party as an attempt to end corruption?

If I recall, that list of Old Dan's was only about incidents of violent crime.

I think corruption, on a local level, tends to arise independent of party affiliation.
