That is largely the issue. What if the revealed salary range is unacceptable to the likely candidates? The employers have wasted both their own time and that of the applicants. Given job hunting can now require hundreds of applications, this has become an issue.

Wage transparency is also in the interest of workers generally. Many in my age group strongly believes in sharing salary information with co-workers.

I hear you..... I'll paint the picture from my end..... Say I list a job for a mechanic. I need a good mechanic because my current mechanics aren't performing and my customers are getting angry..... Because I want a good mechanic, I am willing to pay 60k a year. Now I have all my 50k a year mechanics that aren't performing angry with me..... See where I am coming from?..... Now I have never been a proponent of on-line job applications and have never used them. But there are no two people in my organization that earn the same compensation. Some are more valuable to me than others. My compensation agreement with everyone in here is highly confidential and that is part of my employment agreement with my guys. Discussing compensation in my company is grounds for termination. That make any sense?

I do see where you're coming from, it's a complex struggle from both sides.

However, just FYI, I'm pretty certain that's illegal. Discussion of pay is federally protected by the 1935 National Labor Relations Act.

As I understand it you can limit them from talking about it on company time, but they can discuss it on personal time.

That may be and it has never been a problem for me. But then I don't have two people here doing the same thing either. My salespeople are going to make more than my warehouse guy. That's just common sense. And I encourage the warehouse guy to grow in this company. I am completely honest when I say that I started out as a warehouse man in the early 1990's and worked my way up. Cream always rises to the top.

I'll offer one more personal experience. My wife heads up the technology division at a major university. She has a way bigger office than me, but am I jealous??.... I am straying here..... Her one biggest heartburn is that being a state organization, all of her help has their income publicly posted. She is constantly running interference with her help because one earns this and the other earns that. It makes her completely nuts...... My place is a "for profit" organization. I have no spare time to run that kind of interference. We have to turn a profit or I cannot pay people. That is my number one priority.... Getting people paid. If I am running interference between disgruntled employees, I am not making a profit. And it's really just that simple.

Wage transparency is no more in the interest of workers than is being video-monitored during work hours. Why should an employee be able to earn exactly the same as others without having to demonstrate same value as others to the employer?

It doesn't mean they earn exactly the same, it merely gives employees another bargaining chip. Perhaps employers should embrace it and use it as a jumping off point for getting more out of their workers. If Bob makes 60K and Jack makes 50K, why can't the conversation be "Jack, here's what you need to do more like Bob to be at his level"

I am astounded at the claims and statements by Little Gene. The statements simply enforce his stance of equality with JoeNation...an Ideology of Division that uses false and misleading statements to engage others in "intellectual" discussions, and use phrasing that is designed to present an appearance of thoughtful introspective examination of the Human Condition.

What is VERY disappointing, is the members here that continue to accept this ploy that relies on the good will of the members to address his and his despicable counterpart JoeNations's phony philosophical and illogical logic, by responding with aplomb and belief.

This man-child Gene and JoeNation are avowed Marxist-Socialists that despise anyone that supports a Federal Republic and the Constitution, and would not hesitate to disparage any person that does not support their hateful and disingenuous attempts and goal of overthrowing our Federal Republic.

Setting aside their obvious bigotry and atheism (and that alone is laughable, because if they were to appear before SCOTUS to present a position for consideration, one wonders what their response would be to the fundamental SCOTUS Opening Prayer, required before Argument), is it not obvious that their reliance on and support of dissention, including violence, is necessary to advance their attempts to overthrow our Federal Republic?

A simple example; In2022, 185 large union contracts contracts representing 1.3 million workers are set to expire this year, and the 'impact" by sector is:
    Educational Services 267K
    Food and Beverage 195K
Motion Picture and Sound Recording 141K
    Government Support 124K
    Justice and Safety 86K
    Transportation/Equipment Manufacturing 50K
    Hotels/Lodging 50K
    Postal Service.. 47K
Petroleum and Coal Manufacturing 32 K.

Remind me, please, how many persons are unemployed at this time in the U.S.?
Remind me please, how many persons are employed at this time in the U.S.?
Remind me please (this involves a little math) what percentage the previous reminder requests are, relative to each other, and more importantly, as percentages of the contracts listed that are expiring?

Then, examine the IWW (Industrial Workers of the World), U.S. Headquarters Chicago....the source of the silly Poster that is supposedly 'gaining traction' is stating:

1,577 Union contracts covering organizations with more than 1,000 workers( the math inference being a potential 1,577,000 employees "at risk").

862 Union contracts covering organizations with more than 400 workers (the math inference being an ADDITIONAL 344,800 employees "at risk").

The total IWW inference being the total "at risk" is 1,921,800.

NO! Look at the first breakdown and put on a simple math hat: note how many of the sectors equal the 1,921,000 potential unfairly treated employees? Can't make the math work? I can't, either.

Somehow, 600,000+ employees are unaccounted for in the IWW total.

Addressing the very stupid remark concerning what is 'legal" and what is not 'legal" wage conversation by employees, is an ignorant statement, and a iyamsmart BS statement, since the 1935 NLRA DOES NOT apply. It is the 2014 NLRB Executive Order, via POTUS Obama that applies, and ONLY TO EMPLOYEES OF FEDERAL CONTRACTORS.

The smart move is for the employer to err on the side of employees' right to concerted activity. State legislature is the control of non-federal contract employers, concerning the subject of wage discussions....not the US. Government.

The very stupid and ignorant statement concerning universal healthcare, is a favorite whataboutism of the Ideology of Division, as is the mantra LOOK AT CANADA. OK, I will 35 million vs. 360 million (and climbing) . Yet 2,563,000 CANADIAN CITIZENS, in 2020 (not counting the higher totals in previous years that did not have the CV19 restraints) sought care in U.S. healthcare facilities.

    AND, Little Gene?

I tried to tell you, you have not earned the right to enter intellectual discussion. You lie, you manipulate, you practice and ideology of Division in every utterance you publicly proclaim, and you are condescending and a bigot.

Now, everyone, do your homework and learn how IWW is funded, and not only in the U.S., but in the entire World.

    I repeat, Little Gene: Clown.

    An
And a labor union claiming its member workers with same work history deserve he same pay is complete BS.

Take your socialist garbage and peddle it to Russians and Chinese, where it’s welcome.

Well I didn't say anything about same pay for same history, so I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at.

Why is it impossible to critique the American brand of capitalism without being called a socialist? Do you truly believe that the American system is as good as it gets, no room for improvement?

I have a very easy answer for that..... Like yourself, we employers aren't made of money!.... I learned a very simple lesson when I left the Army and entered the working world. If I add value to my employer, I am worth more. If I run the warehouse, keep the forklift tuned up and saving gas for my employer. If I am in sales, I maximize every profit dollar I can for my employer. An employer will financially reward an employee that adds value to his business. Rarely will an employer reward an employee that demands more just because. It is a two way street, Gene. Just like everything else in life.... You do the dishes for your wife and she rewards you with a nice dinner. It ain't no different in the professional world.

Workers of the word unite is the mantra straight out of the Communist Manifesto so May Day is fitting. Many of these indoctrinated folks will find themselves unemployed and probably unemployable. Gene said in a previous post that many of these individuals are willing to lie on applications and to lie on references for others. That tells you all you need to know about their work performance. These folks tell us how brilliant they are but they don’t realize everything they say on the internet is forever. Employers are increasingly researching applicants and those that brag about lying will soon be flipping burgers for the rest of their life. No wonder they want a $15.00 minimum wage.

And that is exactly the thing these people don't take into account. When I was young and quitting more jobs than I was keeping, my work history required a lot of effort. It doesn't these days. You do an employer wrong, it is forever on the web someplace for a potential future employer or financier to find..... There is too much damaging short range thinking going on here..... There will come a day that these young people will want financing from a bank for a business endeavor or something. Well, a stellar history is the only way to get that. Leaving a path of pissed off employers will not help you later in life.

Charley, just let me offer this..... You have seen @JoeNation name calling and insults in other threads. Do you think the man did himself any favors? Do you pay any attention to a person that is belittling you? I don't. The only way to effect positive change is to offer a positive message. Correction does not have to go hand in hand with insults and slander. That only lowers you to the depths of those that can't deliver a coherent message. People only resort to that foolishness when they are wrong.

No, you didn’t, but that’s exactly what the labor unions strive to make sure of is that people doing the same job should receive the same base pay. What is unfair is that they still fight to make employers pay the same to those whose total net output, whether due to lower production rates or to quality problems or to both, is less than acceptable, as measured against their coworkers.

I have no problem with improving an existing system. The system you espouse is socialist, is not an improvement, and I will not embrace that.

I am not interested in the advice or offer.. I am not in need of favors. I will not coddle clowns and instigators that seek to divide people.

That you consider my posts as insult and slander to these Clowns is your issue, not mine. I have lived the consequences of the BS and targeted disinformation and Ideology of Division these 2 Marxist-Socialists attempt with every post they make.

Who do you think you are admonishing, your child? You don't like my posts, don't read them. You want to be nice and make friends with an Ideology that would slit your throat, that is your choice. You did not raise one point in objection, and tried the can't we all get along approach, instead of immediately calling the clowns on obvious nonsense, that any business owner would laugh at, instead of answering "...well, that may be....but....".

These clowns exist on whataboutism and butism and howaboutsoandsowhatism. It is a ploy, because when these clowns are not immediately shut down with fact and called out on their Ideology of Division, and illogical logic and bigotry and hate, and are engaged with courtesy and using words like "I can appreciate blahblah" or "I guess your pov has merit blahblah", they have the answer and opening they thrive on.....pitting persons against each other. You do it quite frequently, and while I have previously informed you that you are a more patient person than me, I will not countenance such nonsense. Read my earlier posts, and look how those posts were responded to. It certainly was not response in kind.

Yet you do not question the very rudimentary BS these clowns throw out. I have previously made it clear, I do not comment on subjects I do not have direct knowledge of, and have experienced in some manner. That includes the type of business you engage.

The moment these clowns are called out and not coddled and not given quarter to spout nonsense and fabrications, and called out for what they are...and note that they do not deny my descriptions of them...., their real personality emerges: hateful, spiteful, swearing, threatening, derisiveness, condescension, bigotry, anger (and they will ALWAYS accuse the other guy of the same).

Their can't we all get along phoniness disappears into never was land.

You want to disagree? Your Right to do so and I support it. However, what you think of my position means nothing to me.
