The January Crunch is Worse This Year

I usually have a slight drawdown in late January posts due to the start of
the college basketball season _and_ the Australian Open.

This year, we can add finishing up a C telnet clone to the demands on the
    attention.

(I'd like to see a list of the wild Internet connection attempts made from
    my house yesterday and today . . . .)

((But that part's OK now, name-service 'n' all.))

(((This business of netdb.h's struct hostent member h_addr_list being a
NULL-terminated array of pointers to pointers (why? why?) to in_addr_ts
doubling as struct in_addrs (no structure-padding involved) has just about
    "ruint" me.)))

When a system is set up to accomplish some goal, a
new entity has come into being--the system itself.
No matter what the "goal" of the system, it
immediately begins to exhibit system behavior; that
is, to act according to the general laws that govern
the operation of all systems. Now the system itself
    has to be dealt with.

Your obvious technical briliance and humble intellect is admirable. I
see you in a new way.

    Be well.

I think she was being sarky.

Not to mention being on a character-analysis/psychoanalytical kick.

But I just checked my email with my shaky new telnet clone, so <rude
    sound>.

Once I get this all polished up, it'll be the grottiest part solved of a
nice Usenet newsgroup archiving program, the centerpiece of a neat little
program suite I intend to write, including the reporting program I've
    already got largely written.

mimus, or Little by Little, indeed.

Yep, starts tomorrow, the qualies are just winding up.

Looks like Sharapova's going to meet Davenport in the second round, which
I'm sure if the draw was rigged the tourney would've kept that from
    happening . . . .

Schiavone-Loit should be a gooder in the first round, without much of a
crowd probably (and I doubt it'll be televised, in the US anyway): There
should be room for lots of Schiavone fireworks in that one.

Take a deep breath, take a walk, cool off, plot a bit, and serve again.
