Many were probably excited to be back in the US since they all moved to Canada 8 years ago and just now came back since America has been saved from the ashes. The rest were probably just holding their breath waiting for Cheney to reach up, pull Obama's still beating heart from his chest, and eat it in front of the Obama children while Bush ordered the military to imprison all non-whites in the crowd...because Bush/Cheney would never give up their powers. Good thing for America that Cheney was in a wheelchair so the whole heart pulling out/eating thing became darn near impossible.
Oh come one. Like you didn't see it in Cheney's eyes that he was thirsting for a still beating heart to dine on! It was totally obvious.
Regarding Cheney, I am not buying this whole nonsense about his injuring his back lifting moving boxes BS. With his health issues, there has to be more to his being in a wheelchair than moving boxes.
Halliburton and Blackwater Security better get working on buying an election, that is about what it would take to get that idiot elected.
No problem there , and for reference just look at the new ex prez who had an 8 year run , calling him an idiot is standard and being kind.
We were talking about the same thing at work today. When the government has moved me (4 or 5 times), the most strenuous activity I do is put plenty of soda in the fridge for the movers, buy lunch for them and make sure there is some beer available if they want it when they are about done for the day. The government pays them to do everything else...packing and moving. You mean to tell me the VP doesn't get that good of a gig and has to move his own boxes? lol
Cheney in a wheelchair. Hope it's serious, terminal and painful. Now for the bright side. Obama's moving in the mother-in-law. I don't care how big the house is that takes some balls!
True, but if George the II had problems, Jebbie has even more. He has lots of little narsty skeletons in the closet, including some from when he was governor of Florida. Those two make their dad, George the I, look almost boring.
Obama Hmm.. at first glance it looks like some of us will be eating our words , executive order to close Gitmo..its change. Reversing the Bush administration view on funding groups advertising abortion ..its change. Its the kind of change thats going to get noticed and stir controversy.Might as well draw a huge bullseye on his back. The US put up a good show for this "change" but sadly there are a silent minority who have not and will not change. Id love to know where the US plans to put these people long incarcerated at Gitmo , set them free ? That is going to open a huge can of litigation and wrongful detainment, not to mention the net result of keeping those guys there and without charge or trial ,torturing them , well if they were not flag burning terrorists before , they are now. Why are these people detained at Gitmo ? Do we really mistrust the Bush administration to think they could all be innocent ? Does that make any sense ? So lets assume that even 1/3rd of them are the real deal ,bomb planting skyjacking terrorist, willing to be a martyr. Do we really want to turn them loose ? If closing Gitmo by years end means swift trials and prison terms being handed out to the proven guilty im all for it , the innocent will go home but with a new attitude towards the US.
Why not refire Alcatraz? It is US soil, but feels like a third world country if you have ever been there. It is not a pleasure palace and it gives the terrorists access to USA courts, so they can be found guilty and thrown to the sharks.
Not that bad of an idea SM , it would be silly to imprison them on the mainland.Leavenworth doesnt want them. Fact is a lot of these guys are still there because they simply have nowhere to go , no country is willing to accept them apparantly. The world screams at the US to close Gitmo yet doesnt want their people back ? Then there are the true terrorists , make no mistake theres more than a few there. Alcatraz is an ideal solution if its available.
I think the legal concern is if you put them on US soil, what rights do they automatically obtain. If we do that, we have to be ok with the decision that we are going to release a lot of them or give them to other countries. And, if that is the route we go, that is the route we go but we probably have to be ok with more of this: http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/01/23/gitmo.detainee/index.html
Putting a timetable in place was a huge mistake. The first big executive order clearly not thought out at all, whos advising this guy? Theres a few guys in there guilty of no more than being combatents.Throwing grenades at an occupying army isnt terrorism. Some as young as 15 when they went in there 7 years ago. Formative years spent incarcerated and labelled terrorist. Of course it doesnt necessarily bode well for al queda either , if soldiers think its pointless to apprehend an opponant.
They would have done much better with a "Catch and Release programme" along these lines, they could have even given them a free car: Then they would be the fishes problem.
Rush discussed this on the program about a month ago to great lengths. The reality of it is quite shocking. It's a bigger mess than anybody has really imagined. Many of the people out there who support closing it, believe this will be like a movie and the people held there will be handed a passport and they will gleefully go back to their families in their home countries to live happily ever after. In reality, all these guys are high profile now. No country in the World wants them to come back or will even allow them back. The only other option is that they come here and be held temporarily in U.S. prison. And as Stu says, they will await trial and be granted rights. In conclusion, there's a very good chance that many of them will end up living in the U.S. as free men. Like it or not. Just remember, this is what people voted for. Lets cheer. As bad as Gittmo may be, I think the situation is about to get a whole lot worse. People will whine and complain about the injustice of it all, until one of them (or a group of them) move in next door.
