EXACTLT!!! No one should be able to influence elected officials be they corporations, unions, or girl scouts. Think of what our elected officials could get done for us if they didn't have to raise money all the time.
As long as we don't have any more 1 billion dollar Presidential elections, I would be all for public only funding. It would not only limit influence of corporations and the like but it would even the playing field. It could also lead to more than 2 viable parties in this country. So, considering both of the above, it will never be allowed to happen by either of the 2 current parties.
I thought Obama's agenda was put to a vote in'08. Are you one of those that really believe that ''the pledge'' will be the panacea for this countrys ills? Or is it just something that isnt left, lib, dem or whatever ?
Lets add personal contributions to that. Perfect example is Meg Whitman in CA , that woman has spent over $100 MILLION so far for a job that pays what? Both partys do it......it needs to stop
Well if the populace want to vote for the one who gives away the most bumperstickers and balloons; thats their stupidity. Besides, alot of people run for office not for the money, but for the power.
If you missed this on Jon Stewart the other night, it is Republicans, in their own words, explaining their pledge to America and how it came to be and what it is all about. If you can find their "new ideas", you're a better man than I... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/24/stewart-gop-pledge-america_n_737812.html
Can I ask why you want to end TARP? ok you might think that is a dumb question but have you looked at the numbers? Originally expected cost $356 billion Estimates of the cost, as of April 12 2010 is $89 billion $245 billion invested in U.S. banks $169+ billion has been paid back, including $13.7 billion in dividends, interest and other income, + $4 billion in warrant proceeds as of April 2010 March 2010, GM repaid more than $2 billion to the U.S. and Canadian governments Even AIG are expected to pay off some $56 billion with dividens! Now compare those figures to what was spent in the Reagan/Bush years to cover the Savings and loan crisis of the late 1980s that totaled some 3.2% of GDP with this lot costing about 1% of GDP (That was the wall St Journals findings)
In a couple of years, they will be counting it as one of Bush's successes. lol On a related note...I just read recently that the Government only has to sell its GM stock at $133 a share to recoup that money.
IF? you missed this? Thats funny. I'm not sure how many people get their information from Comedy Central. Where do you get the weather, E!?
What's actually funny is that Stewart uses their own words to make fun of them. Just because he demonstrates Right wing hypocrisy with a sense of humor, doesn't make it any less true. Which part did you disagree with? Specifically! P.S. I just look out the window for my weather info.
Where do you see my post as a disagreement? I just think its funny that you turn to Comedy Central for your ammunition. And you must have some O'Donnell type of magic(current enough for ya?)if you can look out the window for a forecast. You see I can look out a window and see only what the weather is. Not what the weather will be. For that I'd be constantly looking.
Ha. Ok. To confess, I too watch Comedy Central for my political fix. I've noticed that Kenny dies more often when a Republican is president. I watch WGN for auto tips. And TBS for financial advice.
The tactics used by Liberal controlled media i.e. NBC with SNL & Comedy Central are very insidious, almosy subliminal. They use their "mainstream" broadcast to create caricatures that the masses don't even realize they are buying into (see dr mon's earlier post citiongJohn Stewart as a credible source). Non-liberals routinely are torched while the libs are treated gently, with kid gloves.
