A lot is posted here about the different factions of the the Republican party but different components make up the Dem party as well. On one hand, you have the base- made up of mainly folks who call themselves dems because of where they live, how they were raised, etc. They identify with the dem party, in part, because they consider the repubs to be the party of the rich. These people tend to be more conservative than the party will ever admit. I call these members simply "democrats". Then you have the idealistic, bleeding hearts searching for a utopian existence. These are the "liberals". These folks are the foot soldiers for the party & they are called to action to advance the party agenda. They are easily swayed & manipulated by rhetoric....the party tugs at their heart strings (and purse strings). The final distinction I see are the "progressives". These are the elite, radical, wealthy dems who think they know what is best for us & should wield all the power because they are so much smarter than the population. They are allied with academia in a mutually beneficial relationship. Think about dems who you know personally and the one's you see on TV. __________________________________________________
The problem with the modern Democratic Party is that it's no longer the party of Truman or even Kennedy. I was actually raised a Democrat (believe it or not, everyone!) and to believe in working hard, honesty and responsibility. However, the Democratic Party has been taken over by liberals, progressives and socialists and is no longer even a shadow of its former self. You're exactly right when you say that liberals are the foot soldiers and that progressives are the elites. I don't agree with their ideology in the least so I've switched to conservative. I still believe in hard work, honesty and responsibility but I don't see that a platform of the modern Democratic Party. It's become the party of "me-me" and social liberalism promoted by the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and their ilk. Sorry, Democrats... I didn't leave you, you left me.
Now that was special. Good job my lost conservative lemming. You found an Obama verbal misstep. Out of the literally thousands upon thousands of internet selections offered everywhere around the world, I thought this collection of George's special moments helps define your party's best available presidential offering. Enjoy. Ultimate George W. Bush Collection - MySpace - Truveo Video Search
I come from Detroit and a union UAW family of Democrats. They have realized that their party has been hijacked by the progressive socialists...... I never was a Democrat, but would bet that JFK would be to " right " to be welcomed in that party these days.
I think that if you looked closely, you would really find JFK to the RIGHT of a lot of Republicans today - at least on a lot of his policies.
Correct Rlm, JFK was alot more right than many mainstream Repos like McCain, Graham, Collins, Snow, etc etc
Dude I can come up with a thousand Bush blunders for every one you can find of Obama. The list is literally endless and the world was his witness. I understand you're embarrassed by Bushie and want to refocus the light away from that fact, but, it's too late. The man was an absolute idiot and embarrassment to our country and the world, and he was the best your party had to offer. My goldfish has more intellect than Georgey. No comparison to Obama in the intellect department. Sorry..
You were simply making fun of Bush and his gaffes so I was showing you that he's not the only one who makes mistakes. Don't get your panties in a bunch.
Yes, I know. The "they do it too" mentality of refocusing attention too closely. Again, I point out that this embarrassment to mankind was the RNC's pick to lead our country. Who's next? Sarah? LOL
The real difference I see between Democrats and Republicans is that Democrats do not agree with each other often enough and Republicans agree with each too often.
There's an old saying which began around the time of ancient Egypt, pondered by Socrates, whispered in the streets of Babylon, murmured in the markets of Marrakesh and proclaimed loudly in the halls of Rome: "ANYBODY BUT OBAMA"! And it still rings true today!!
Maybe we should put back the Prez that they throw shoes at and is despised worldwide? You know, that genius that took us to war for nothing (except maybe his personal vendetta?).
I'd be interested in hearing your other preferences. All you've done is tell us who you don't like here. Big surprise. Tell us which candidate you'd willingly support in 2012. I just don't see a canadate from your side being any better. Maybe you could point out a couple for me.
