The best way to rehabilitate the criminal is by making the punishment so repugnant that they change their minds before doing the crime,,

This is what keeps most people from being criminals, but it is easy to see the system does not work for everyone,,using myself as an example, I dont steal, or rob or murder, because I find the loss of my freedom to be a repugnant Idea, now that level of puishment is enough to keep me in control of my reactions to various stimuli . because I have the ability to react in different fashion ,everyone does.

some people do not have this restraint, and thus you have active criminal activity, the level of repugnancy has not been met.or for that matter found by our justice system to reach a level that would deter this group pf people from criminal activity,, when that level is reached then crime will decline based upon severity of punishment, not rehabilitation after the offense.

Currently our prisons only teach people how to be better criminals. They concentrate on body building so that they develop monster physiques. I just can not understand why we allow these criminals to use prison to develop these monster physiques and skills at crime. We should use isolation much more extensively, and we must take the weights out. We should make extensive use of educational videos also.

Basically I am saying alone in a cell with intensive re-education videos years on end. If you think that that is mollycoddeling you are wrong.

You're kidding? We cannot, there is no way possible, make these people productive citizens by sticking them in front of a tv. We should give them a crappy bed, the same food they're already getting, and nothing else. We don't need guards inside these prisons patrolling, just around exits. If these inmates want to hurt/kill other inmates, have fun. And no more "rehabilitation" courses for them to become more experienced and smarter ;) criminals.

The problem here is that they hurt the staff. In AZ a couple of dirtbags grabbed some cafeteria workers and raped them and held them hostage for weeks (a very ugly situation). You may say just be more careful but these guys do nothing but sit around and think of how to do stuff like that. We MUST reduce or preferably eliminate all human contact for these prisoners. With Technology that may be possible.
