When a word is used in a derogatory manner with an intent to demean another person, it becomes offensive. Calling a cigarette a "fag" in the UK is quite innocuous, but calling a person a fag in the US is very offensive.

The word "nigger" or "niggur" was not always considered an offensive word, either. Not until people began using the word to demean others did it evolve into an offensive label.

The same with the word "cracker". When people began using it as a pejorative, it became offensive.

People should learn that color-biased (or "race-based", if you will) labels not only reveal their own biases and prejudices, but the use of such language perpetuates hatred. That's something for which I have no tolerance.

More racist hatred speech. If this is all you have to squawk, please go back into your cage and keep quiet. Just because Little Joe said it was OK to use such hate-filled words doesn't make it right. I don't expect you to understand that, however.

You're such an expert at repeating what Little Joe says! Yet, you still wonder why you've earned the title of "Parrot"?

If you don't like being called a cracker, don't be one. Simple.

It's rather difficult to change the color of one's skin. It's sort of inherent in a person, you know? Sort of like a person's sexual orientation which I believe is not a matter of environment or other factors, but rather something a person is born with. You might as well say, "If you don't like being called a faggot, don't be one". It doesn't work that way.

So you're saying all white people are crackers? Maybe all the ones you hang out with, but trust me. Not all white people are like that. In fact it's been my experience that most white people aren't crackerish at all. This, of course is a problem for Republicans, who find crackers to be more reliable supporters than non-crackers.

The color of one's skin doesn't mean that people should use derogatory terms to describe them. Where did you come up with that? It's the same as using a derogatory term to describe a person's sexual orientation.

    Stop being foolish.

Are you attempting to make a point?

Well, now that's wonderful to hear!

You really should stop using derogatory terms like "cracker". I thought you were more intelligent than that, Takiji.

Which is why I said I have met a lot of "white niggers".

"When the word nigger was devised, the meaning it implied was of a debased, ignorant, or very low person"

    http://www.daveyd.com/nword.html

(Yes, I just googled the link but ignorant was the word I was looking for).

Not exactly flattering but not related to skin tone.

When using the word "nigger" the ignorant part is very important.
"Ignorance" is treatable in most cases.

Labeling someone a "nigger" is a derogatory term, nevertheless. Regardless of the pigmentation of their skin.

The word "nigger" is a derivative of the "negro" in Spanish or "negre" in French and is used to describe a person's skin color, albeit at that time, NOT disparagingly. When the word was in accepted usage, it was no more demeaning than referring to someone as being from a certain part of the world, i.e., "aboriginal", "asian", "caucasian", etc. It's only when people bastardized the word into "nigger" and began using it as a derogatory term did it become unacceptable.

The word "queer" was also once acceptable (and in some instances when referring to inanimate objects or ideals it can still be acceptable). But, once the word transformed into usage as a disparaging remark toward homosexuals, its use in a derogatory manner became unacceptable.

Correct to some degree. Slave traders and their bookkeepers would write the name of the country of origin for slaves and many of those came from the country of Niger. Of course, through the bastardization of language, the pronunciation became "Nigger" and, subsequently, dark-skinned persons began being referred to as "Nigger". In the beginning, such usage wasn't necessarily a way of demeaning someone, it was just a general descriptive term. As time went on, of course, the word took on its current meaning.

Yes, I think that word and many other words, when spoken in the context to demean the target, displays the ignorance of the speaker.

I've been working on treating that since I joined this forum and have had very little success, Clembo. I refuse to give up trying, however.

Yeah, right. I've said my piece and since you have responded with another of your intellectual turds with a wax job I'll leave it at that. The next space is reserved for you to have the last word if you'd like.
