The "C-Word" Is Just As Offensive As The "N-Word"

Did you bother to look up the definition of "white people" or were you just too biased to bother?

So, YES! I guess your use of the term makes you a racist

I don't take offense to it, but I neither use those terms nor answer to them either. I think words become derogatory when the people they are directed at don't fully understand language, and that can and does apply to those slinging the words. It's utterly silly to assume a word can portray a race, a culture or a belief. The racism isn't in the word....it's in it's user, no matter what choice of words they choose to use.

I like your view, Guy. However, keep in mind that many "black" people are going to be offended by the derogatory use of the word "nigger" no matter the context. The same as many "white" people are going to be offended by the derogatory use of the word "cracker".

There was never a time when it was a good thing to use derogatory terms to describe a person's skin color. Intelligent people, especially in modern society, should know better. Such terms are hate-filled, bigoted and racist.

Just in case the real point of this Right-wing head case’s OP went over anyone’s head, allow me to clarify. Look at the title of the thread. It would have you believe that there is an equivalency between the use of a derogatory term used for centuries to demean, terrorize, and control a minority population and a derogatory term for the dominant white population. That is the real point that this pathetic, hopelessly out of touch idiot is trying to make. He himself thinks that the word cracker has something to do with skin color. Nothing could be less true. He wants you to believe that the poor white people in this country are just as insulted by this term as blacks are offended by the name they have heard all their lives…from white people. There is no equivalency. I can’t even think of two people that would even be familiar with the term cracker but I doubt there is a black person in the entire country that hasn’t heard the other term. The false equivalency argument is a tried and true Right-wing tactic which I see right through. I hope you do too. Calling it the C-word has to be the funniest part in my opinion. What a goomba cracker!

Joe, you're just digging yourself deeper and deeper. Of course "cracker" is a derogatory term used toward white people and it's a term that's been around for a long time.

Because you don't know "two people" who would be familiar with the term just reinforces my belief that you're out of touch and ignorant of the use of the word. You might not equate the word "cracker" with the word "nigger", but the equivalency exists in the fact that they're both derogatory terms meant to demean the target.

A person doesn't have to be a "poor white" person (as you erroneously state) to be the target of the derogatory word "cracker". Any so-called "white" person can be the target. It's the same as using the word "spic" against Hispanics or "chink" against Asians. There's simply no place for it. I hate to break the news to you, but you're completely wrong on this issue.

    Are the words derogatory?
Yes. I think so but have they been used just by racists and bigots?

I doubt it. Depending on one's definition of either of these terms there have been plenty of "white niggers" and I can surmise quite a few "black crackers".

If I distanced myself from every person that used the word "nigger" where I live I would not have my current job.

Personally I have no problem with a "black" person calling me "white". It's an "easy" description of skin pigment and done without malice.
I've never been called a "cracker" but have been called a "honkey". I didn't appreciate that.

I see some of your point Coin but also need to inject some reality as I see it.

There will always be some type of prejudice. There will always be derogatory terms.

Heck. Just look at terms used on this site by the few members that post.

    DIMocrats.
    Repukes.
    DemocRATS.

I find these words "childish" and some may construe this comment as "derogatory". Well guys. Get over it.

I see the word "idiot" used here all too often. Can anyone TRULY define an "idiot"?

    Typical liberal. Typical whatever.

How much thought really goes into an "asinine" statement or judgment here?

Not much I feel. So what's the difference between "making up" derogatory words or using those that have been around for centuries?

    None I feel.

I can think of one "C" word that is highly-offensive, and it's not "conservative". Why not "conservative"? Well, I'm the most conservative person here, though a lot of you fake conservatives are giving it a bad name. You should just go ahead and call yourselves "Tea-baggers", if only to let your former fellow-republicans have some peace!

I bet Ronnie would call you all "Tea-baggers" too, btw. Why? You'd never allow him a shot at the White House today....he'd be considered too Socialist for you nut-draggers.
