You would have figured that after the Robert's Supreme Court confirmation process that the Schumers, Kennedys and Bidens of the left would have learned a lesson. Obviously, Roberts made fools of these "anti-this" and "anti-that" liberals by demonstrating his intellect was indeed far and above these losers.

Still, Kennedy, Schumer and Biden went after Roberts with nothing more than personal attacks. They couldn't argue the law or his record, they had only one intention...destroy this man. Remember, they voted for Roberts when he served as a federal judge, but now they can't argue facts or the law, just what a person read 30 years ago or what his wife cooks for dinner. It is ridiculous!

Now Alito is going through the same EXACT personal attacks like Roberts. Differant name...same liberal fear tactics. Biden loves hearing himself talk by taking 12 minutes to ask ONE question! Again, they cannot attack Alito's record, so what do they do? They just try to destroy the man and his family.

Who is in charge of the ethic questions? It's Kennedy! Kennedy pounded Alito about some college club he joined and I would have loved to see Alito fire back, "Well Senator Kennedy, it was no way near how you were kicked out of Harvard for having another student cheat for you by taking YOUR exam!"

Or maybe Alito should have stated this his love for baseball was just like Kennedy's love for May Jo Kopechne who he left submerged under water for 10 hours (as he was cheating on his wife) before he was told he should alert the authorities. Or maybe, Alito could have reminded Kennedy how he woke up his nephew (Willie Kennedy Smith) in West Palm Beach to go out for a drink. Kennedy asking about ethics? He is one of the most unethical men in Congress!

Well, obviously the liberals and the MoveOn crowd have all shown their true colors. Forget arguing facts or the law, destroy anybody that is remotely conservative...JUST DESTROY THEM. Say it enough times until the main stream media picks it up. After all, do you think the media will challenge a liberal for ridiculous comments??

As one democratic senator stated, "It's not the facts we are interested in...just the seriousness of the charge."

I hope America is watching the "left" make fools out of themselves...AGAIN!!

Midas, you have the unique gift of seeing things exactly as you want to see them. Unfortunately for the rest of us it is also highly predictable and fairly boring to read again and again.

I watched a lot of the hearings this week and listened to them the rest of the time. Democrats did what they were supposed to do and grilled the Republican nominee. Republicans did what they were supposed to do and praised the nominee endlessly.

Yes, the Democrats tried to pull answers out of him that he didn't want to give them. Yes, the Republicans didn't see him as anything but a saint come to earth. So what else is new?

They played their parts, they did their dance and he will be confirmed anyway. How Midas can get frothy at the mouth over this well rehearsed and highly predictable affair is beyond me. I guess he just needs something to rail against.

    Prattle on dude!

Then how come Ginsberg was never treated anything like this? Oh...I forgot...she was an ACLU lawyer and they cannot be touched! The same goes for a person of color claiming that the "white man" intentionally flooded New Orleans. The left and 99% of the main stream media would scream "racism" if anybody dares to question these ridiculous claims. After all, if you question a liberal, you are a insensitive-enviroment-hating-rich-racist!

There is video of Kennedy during the Ginsburg confirmation stating she doesn't have to answer questions on how she would rule, so she deserves a pass during her hearing. Ginsburg stated back during her 1993 hearing, "nominees may not be able to answer questions that seek hints, forecasts or previews about how they would rule on particular issues". Nobody batted an eye on BOTH sides of the aisle and the proceedings were civil.

But that was for Ginsburg even though she is so far left. Republicans gave her this pass and she was confirmed 98-0 by the senate. So does Kennedy follow this protocal when Bjork, Thomas, Roberts and now Alito are in front of him? Absolutely not!!

Your "left" legislators have NOTHING to bring to these hearings except these ridiculous attacks. They are NOT concerned with facts...only false charges and personal witch hunts. They would rather follow the "serious of the charges" than the facts and records they all have at their disposal.

Bottom line is that these proceedings are just a waste of time and money anyways. Republicans crossed the aisle and voted for Ginsburg (even though her politics are whacked) because she was qualified. This is something you will NEVER see from liberal democrats because they are too busy hating Bush and hating America. After all, if the nominee has any degrees of conservative hints, he has to be destroyed.

Obviously liberals are not ashamed on how Schumer, Kennedy and Biden acted during these hearings, but that is typical...they are too busy hating Bush and trying to destroy this country...just so they can regain politcal power for no other reason than the "Left" agenda.

Don't count your chickens before they are hatched!

    By Kathy Kiely, USA TODAY
WASHINGTON — For Sen. Arlen Specter, Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito's confirmation hearings next month will pit his deeply held political beliefs against his personal ties to the judge and his loyalty to the Republican Party.

The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, a Pennsylvania Republican, says he doesn't know yet how he'll vote.

Alito is President Bush's choice to succeed retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, a swing vote, most notably in preserving abortion rights. Specter, 75, is the senior member of a handful of Republican senators who generally favor abortion rights. "I am pro-choice," he said last week.

As a young lawyer in the Reagan administration, Alito took a strong stand on the other side. Memos he wrote 20 years ago show Alito working unsuccessfully on strategies to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal nationwide.

Alito has told Specter that his personal views won't affect his rulings. Abortion rights advocates are unconvinced; NARAL Pro-Choice America is among those campaigning to defeat him.

Other factors are pushing Specter to keep an open mind. To win Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist's support for the judiciary committee gavel over the opposition of some conservatives, Specter promised not to use his power to bottle up Bush nominees, even if he opposes them.

The confirmation process is just for show anyway. You'll notice that both sides spend more time asking the questions than Alito spends answering them, and most of the time they're not even bothering to ask questions. Ever since Bork, judges going through the confirmation process know enough to keep their answers short, and use the "that case may come before me" excuse whenever possible. The majority of senators already know how they're going to vote anyway. Anybody who voted for Roberts will likely vote for Alito as well, and anyone who voted against him will likely also vote against Alito. There may well be a few people undecided, but not enough to make any difference. Alito's confirmation is nearly guaranteed, so it's not worth reacting to the confirmation process at all. If the democrats want to make asses of themselves, that's their perogative, but they better remember that many of them have elections this year.

BTW, as long as Old Dan brought it up... 20 years ago Alito was working as an advocate for the Reagan administration, so of course he would have echoed the administration's views on abortion, and any other issues. That was his job. As a judge, his only concern is what the law and the Constitution says. His own personal views, and the views of the general population, are irrelevant. He would not be there to speak for himself, the administration, or the American population, but for the law and the Constitution. Theoretically all judges should. Alito clearly looks as if he would, and it can't hurt to have more judges like that on any court, especially the Supreme Court.

Agree with you Troodon. My beef is with the liberals. Republicans sucked it up in the past and dealt with the fact the president has the right to nominate anybody that he wants (like Clinton with ACLU attorney Ginsberg). When all is said and done, the question that had to be answered, "is the person qualified?".

This is where the liberal democrats have defaced these hearings by not considering Alito's and Robert's mountain of qualifications. So what did Schumer, Kennedy and other liberals do? They did what they do best...personal attacks in the hope of if they repeat it enough, people eventually will believe it! Facts and records??? Forget it! Let's destroy this guy and his family.

After 500 plus questions and 18 hours of hearings, these hearings really showed the true colors of the "left"...and guess what? The liberals will not learn because if Bush has to appoint another judge to the Supreme Court, they will march together to this same failing playbook.

After all, when your whole political life is "anti-this" and "anti-that" with no vision for this country (except for increasing taxes), I guess they have nothing left to fall back on. It must be killing the liberals out there. :rolling: Since they can't win the political debate at the polls, their last hope is in the courts. Watch the MoveOn crowd go crazy and move further to the left...dragging down the once proud party of Truman, FDR, Jackson and even JFK.

Midas, I really do not understand why you would be upset with Kennedy with
"for May Jo Kopechne who he left submerged under water for 10 hours (as he was cheating on his wife) before he was told he should alert the authorities."
After all you know that the man is pro-choice and he was only practicing his version of an abortion.

So Kennedy either killed a couple of people or is at least crowardly and recklessly responsible for Mary and their unborn babies death, so he is involved with nephews being asscussed with rape, so he turned a blind eye to his family member out in Conn. who raped and murdered a neighbor, etc..that is no reason or reasons why he can't pick a judge!
or at least his supporters would think.

They must have read the instructions on a shampoo bottle once too often.

As for mispelling Ginsburg's name as Ginsberg...I am deeply sorry. I had a 50/50 shot with berg instead of burg...oh well, sue me! I am sure there is a attorney that will take your case.

    Speaking of good old Ted:

NORWALK, Conn. (Jan. 13) - The state's highest court has upheld Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel's murder conviction, according to the victim's mother, who said she was notified of the decision by prosecutors.

Skakel, a nephew of Ethel Kennedy, was convicted in 2002 of bludgeoning his neighbor, Martha Moxley, to death with a golf club in 1975 in wealthy Greenwich. Skakel, who along with the victim was 15 at the time, is serving 20 years to life in prison.

He appealed his conviction to the Connecticut Supreme Court last year, arguing among other things that the statute of limitations had expired when he was charged in 2000.

Dorthy Moxley, Martha's mother, told The Associated Press on Thursday that she was told by prosecutors that the high court had rejected Skakel's appeal. She said she was told that the decision would be announced Friday.

"I'm not at all doubtful Michael did this. I know he did this," Moxley said. "I hope this is the last we'll hear of them."

A prosecutor declined to speak publicly about the case while Michael Sherman, Skakel's trial lawyer, said he was surprised by news reports of the decision.

"Nothing will ever change my opinion that an innocent man is in jail," he said. "He's simply not guilty."

Details of the Supreme Court's decision were not available. They will be included in the opinion when it is made public on the judiciary Web site.

The defense had argued that, at the time of the killing, the statute of limitations was five years, so Skakel could not be prosecuted. Skakel also argued that the case should not have been transferred to Superior Court from Juvenile Court, where he was first charged.

Authorities have called the transfer from Juvenile Court "the only reasonable route," noting that Skakel was 40 when he was arrested.

The appeal also contended that prosecutors engaged in misconduct during closing arguments by calling Skakel a "spoiled brat" in an effort to inflame the jury. Further, the appeal criticized the prosecution for presenting a taped interview of Skakel that was played as a projected photo of a smiling Martha Moxley dissolved into a grim crime scene photo. Skakel's attorneys called the audiovisual presentation a "made-for-conviction movie."

Prosecutors said the closing argument was based on evidence and testimony from witnesses.

Skakel still has a petition for a new trial pending in Stamford Superior Court. In that appeal, a cousin of basketball star Kobe Bryant implicates two other men in the murder. Prosecutors have said they are skeptical of that claim.

I loved the testimony during the William Kennedy Smith rape trial where Mr. Smith explained to the court that his Uncle Ted awoke him late (while he was staying at the Kennedy compound in West Palm) in the night to go out and have a "drink". Can you picture it? Old Teddy waddles into the room and says, "Hey boys, wake up...come out with your uncle for a drink!"

Of course William picks up a woman and then the story becomes "he said, she said". Where was Uncle Ted while this was going on? At the bar...over the Easter weekend. You're a beautiful man Teddy. Go ahead and keep asking questions on ethics to a man of Alito's character.
