I found this most confusing, but I can see that critical thinking has little to do with actually thinking.

Children must be taught how to think not what to think....Except in Texas.

Liberals have for years injected their ideology deep within the veins of our educational system. This may be the Republican Party in Texas's way of trying to turn the tide back in favor of conservatism. They certainly have the right to believe in whatever they want to believe in (right or wrong). Liberals, like termites, have caused considerable damage and it will take more than this to right the wrongs that have been done. But, it looks like a step in the right direction.

I couldn't agree with you more. At least in that conservatism thrives in the absence of critical thinking.

It certainly didn't take long to prove my point about conservatism did it? No critical thinking demonstrated by this mouth breather.

I knew it was too good to be true, but at least we had 9 days without those slurs and insults

Actually I can see a lot here and I don't see it as "all left" or "all right".

Take "parental control". I think it was more prevalent when I was a kid. I was brought up to respect elders, say please and thank you, open doors for a lady etc.
I certainly don't see things like basic manners much these days. When I do I commend the parent and the kid because I see it so rarely.

Why is this? Is it because parents don't or won't make time for their kids to instill values?
Are TVs and computers dangerous babysitters? I think they are without parental monitoring.
The bottom line is parental control starts at home.

Conversely if one never challenges a child's mind just how much will that child grow as a person?
A "think INSIDE the box" approach will probably not produce a great deal of thinkers. Plenty of drones but don't expect the next Stephen Hawking to arise from that bunch.

Wouldn't this type of "traditional" "old-fashioned thinking" be contrary to most liberal belief systems?
By the way, clembo, I agree with you. Computers & tv's certainly have their place but books, outdoor activities & family time are key.

Honestly David from what I see in the lack of manners department "traditional" "old fashioned thinking" seems to be contrary to liberal, conservative, far right, far left you name it.

I would hope that everyone here agreed on this point David. I reckon most of us here didn't have computers as children because there were none to be had and TV had 5 channels or so and went off air about midnight.
    Nothing like a good book.

But ignoring the fact that Okie just called all liberals termites is OK with you whiners right? I guess it is just another case of do as I say not as I do. It is no wonder I have no respect for idiots on the Right.

I didn't call liberals "termites". I said they were "like termites" meaning "similar to" or "of a like kind". If I wanted to insult liberals, I would call them "idiots". But, how can the truth be an insult? It can't. Liberals ARE idiots and that's not an insult. It's the truth. It's like calling a piece of dung "smelly". No insult, just the truth. Try it sometime.

I figured you say something that lame. So let me add, you three, like idiots, say stupidest things. There, now I haven't insulted you so you guys have nothing to whine about. Thanks for clearing that up. You, like morons, buy into your own nonsense.

Anyway, back to the topic. Does anyone have anything to add to the conversation other than insults?

When people actually see what "critical thinking" is then they might understand why the Texas Republicans did what they did. BTW I was taught how to think and not what to think back when we had the absolute best education system in the world. About that time, the government thought they could improve the education system. Depending on how you evaluate it, we are not about 20th in the world. Anyone think the two might be related?

I'm sorry rlm but are you that freaking bored or obsessed? You counted the days or did you just wait until he came back and clicked on "recent posts"?

Methinks you missed JoeNation along with a few others.

Gets real quiet when there's no one to argue with doesn't it.

Yeah, right. I missed him like I miss shooting myself in the foot, and having my teeth pulled at the same time. Look up the definition of "argue". Where does throwing insults equate with discussion?
