    WASHINGTON - Terrorist attacks worldwide shot up 25 percent last year, particularly in Iraq where extremists used chemical weapons and suicide bombers to target crowds.

    In its annual global survey of terrorism to be released Monday, the State Department says about 14,000 attacks took place in 2006, mainly in Iraq and Afghanistan. These strikes claimed more than 20,000 lives - two-thirds in Iraq. That is 3,000 more attacks than in 2005 and 5,800 more deaths.

    Altogether, 40 percent more people were killed by increasingly lethal means around the globe...

    Chemical weapons fall under weapons of mass destruction. For some reason a large percentage of people think that WMD refers to nukes and only nukes. The Iraq WMD was biological weapons, mainly nerve gas from mercury compounds, which was transported with the gold to Syria. What is as dangerous as the WMD is the delivery system,e.g. long range missles-most illegal Iraq missles parts were found transported to Jordon, or even motars if range of attack is close enough.

    The chemical weapons being used are the World War I variety. This is in about the same category as napalm and does not rise to the level of the city-killing nukes and bio weapons that make up the REAL WMDs. Why do people continue to make up excuses and fairy tales to support politicians who have lied to them?

    A mercury compounded nerve gas can wipe out an entire city if delivered in an effective manner.

    You know, I don't want any Camel Nosed Raging Raving RagHeads, Bible Toting White-Cracker DoomsDay Evangelists or any Black Panther Muslim Wannabes even shooting off a Pop-Gun to scare dogs in my country. To me that's a Terror Attack and there are many, MANY Americans who think the same way too.

    Americans from all walks of life and various religions gave their life to protect the United States of America and it's interests. All you have to do is walk thru a Veteran's Cemetery and look at the gravestones. Crosses Stars, Crescents, even Pentagrams and all served and fought to keep America just the way it is. Build and maintain a great country and destroy those who would raise arms against it. Be that any threat, even a pop-gun...

    Well, as you've already indicated your unworthy of wearing the uniform, so maybe a bath is what just you need...

    I can't wait until the US institutes a mandatory period of National Service for all, say two years. I'd vote for it in a New York Minute. There is a real possibility such a requirement will be a reality within our or our children's lifetime. The good thing is when it's instituted many of our problem citizens will depart for parts unknown...

    Oh I wouldn't say that, I'm sure we'll still have self-richeous weekend warriors aplenty. I wish we did have a period of national service in this country. It wouldn't be strictly military as I'm sure you're imaging it Hank. The military couldn't handle that many servicemen in their ranks.
    Just because you chose the military path, doesn't make it the best, the only, or a panacea for all of this countries problems. You don't seem to be able to shake off the (M.F.C.U.S.) that you were exposed to in basic training. Or maybe it just comes from having your rear raised in a bass-ackwards state like Texas. :p

    No safe way for U.S. to leave Iraq, experts warn,

    Safer and Smarter to stay. This is not an eight year Republican excursion, this is a battle which will go on for generations on many fronts.

    ////////////////////////////////////////
    CNN) -- Pulling U.S. forces from Iraq could trigger catastrophe, CNN analysts and other observers warn, affecting not just Iraq but its neighbors in the Middle East, with far-reaching global implications.

    Sectarian violence could erupt on a scale never seen before in Iraq if coalition troops leave before Iraq's security forces are ready. Supporters of al Qaeda could develop an international hub of terror from which to threaten the West. And the likely civil war could draw countries like Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Iran into a broader conflict.
