Tea party group drops depiction of Obama as skunk

It's just a really, really hard not to see some of these Tea Party people as a bunch of yokel racists given what they find as an acceptable sense of humor. I'm all for a good joke but some people have a much higher tolerance for a racial joke probably because they are pretty much racists in the first place.

Tea party group drops depiction of Obama as skunk

(Reuters) - In the wake of criticism, a Kansas tea party group has removed from its web site home page a comparison of President Obama to a skunk.

The Patriot Freedom Alliance, based in Hutchinson, Kansas, posted a photo of a skunk, stating it had replaced the eagle as a symbol of the president because "it is half black, half white and almost everything it does stinks."

The depiction was on the group's home web page on Saturday but gone on Sunday, said Darrell Pope, president of the Hutchinson chapter of the NAACP. It was also not on the site Monday, the day after an article about it appeared in the Hutchinson News-Leader newspaper.

"They tried to pass it off as satire, but it was hurtful and malicious," Pope said Monday. He said the depiction was racist in reference to Obama, who was born to a white mother and black father.

Pope said he did not contact the tea party group about removing the skunk reference but that it never should have been posted in the first place.

A representative of the Patriot Freedom Alliance who maintains its web site did not immediately return phone calls on Monday. Another member declined to comment.

Hutchinson is a city of about 42,000 in central Kansas, northwest of Wichita.

I look at it like this: Obama does have a black father, and a white mother... and the group, being radically partisan, doesn't like anything Obama does (hence he stinks). Then again, I have far thicker skin than the NAACP. While I strongly disagree with the group's view of Obama, and what is best for America, to me this falls in line with Coin's type of humor. Dumb, no doubt... but funny just the same lol

Like the OP says, SOME of the Tea Party people definitely have roots in racism. This really isn't some kind of jaw dropping revelation. There have always been some pretty vocal racists in the base of the Right-wing. Remember the "Southern Strategy"? I think that the RW'ers here have just a small problem acknowledging that there is any racism in their party whatsoever. We all know that racism is pervasive in this country and can be found in just about any sector of the population. They tend to use this rationalization as a justification for coddling these people and that is why they tend to pool in places like the GOP. Simply put, racism is tolerated with a wink and a nod in the ranks of the GOP and people feeling comfortable posting racist web sites like this one are proof positive of that.

 

And SOME of the OWS are druggies, SOME are criminals. SOME are idiots, SOME are racists, etc. So what is your point?

How willing are you to admit racism in the democrat party? Reid, Biden & Clinton come to mind recently & of course it was the southern democrats who resisted desegregation so violently, right?

 

And just how willing are you and the rest of the left to acknowledging that there is any racism in their party whatsoever? I know the first half of that answer.
Simply put, racism is tolerated with a wink and a nod in the ranks of the left and people feeling comfortable posting racist comments are proof positive of that. If you would like some examples, I still have them.

 

They resisted it so much that they became Republicans and have been ever since. They knew that the Dems had no tolerance for it so they found a political party that did. YOURS!

 

Don't come down on the Tea Party too hard. They're just not that bright.
