I've always seen taxes as the price for living in a civil society. I've always paid my taxes and never tried to cheat on them. Now I may not always agree with how the government spends my money ( another war? really?) but I understand the alternative to no government. Thus I happily pay my taxes. Income tax levels are as about as low as they have ever been today, but people still go on about how they pay too much. Now if your actually poor, and after you account for all those taxes you have to pay, not just income tax. But all the other stuff, sure I know how you feel. For most of the past year if I have had fifty dollars I felt like John Rockefeller. But people who bring in these exorbitant incomes? The top income tax rates used to be over 90%! Holy crap what kind of fascist commy liberal madness is that? The 1950's through the 60's, the golden age of american capitalism. After you adjust for inflation the average wage in this country has been stagnate for at least twenty years, actually a little lower. The top brackets have increased profits many fold. So now the people who cry about taxes the most are the people with the most money, who have gotten more out of this country than the rest. The inheritors of the American Dream. Now if taxes weren't at near record lows, I might listen. If they were offering any way to improve everyone else's situations not just better their own, I might listen to them. But as long as they scream me, me, me, more, more, more I can't help to see them as greedy, thankless, and irresponsible children demanding more and more from the tired beleaguered people who slave away to afford them with their already significant luxuries.
