Stewardess 'banned from taking bible on plane'

An air stewardess is claiming religious discrimination against an airline which she says banned her from taking the Bible to Saudi Arabia.

The stewardess has been told by BMI that it is against the law of the insular Middle Eastern country to bring in religious books other than the Koran.

The woman, who is understood to be a committed Christian, takes her bible everywhere she goes and is now set to take the airline to an industrial tribunal claiming discrimination on religious grounds.

BMI, formerly British Midland Airways, said today it was merely following the Foreign Office advice that no non-Islamic materials or artefacts are allowed into the country.

A spokesman from the airline said: "We issue advice to all our staff and passengers that these are the guidelines.

"She is saying she wants to carry her bible with her. We are saying we can't start designing rules around individuals when we've got several hundred members of staff. To take every personal preference into account would be impossible."

On its web site the Foreign Office says of Saudi Arabia: "The importation and use of narcotics, alcohol, pork products and religious books, apart from the Koran, and artefacts are forbidden."

BMI said it offered the stewardess the opportunity to transfer from long-haul duties to short-haul, but she refused.

The case follows that of British Airways worker Nadia Eweida, also committed Christian, whose objection to BA rules which forbade her visibly wearing a cross led to a review by BA of its uniform policy.

It's apparently gotten worse in the land of Mecca. I've taken a bible there and openly displayed it before, not even 10 years (6 or so) ago...

Course King Fahd was brain dead at the time.

 

I went there a few years back and had to be approved by the government just to enter the country and once in I was given a list of rules and places I could not go. One of the rules was no otward show of any faith but islam. It is a very closed society, even to muslims from other countries like pakistan. My father in law is a muslim and worked there...thats all they would allow, he couldnt stay there to live even if he wantd to, which he didnt.

 

The unit I was assigned to spent 12 months there (1999-2000) and we were just outside of Riyadh at a place called "Eskan Village." I was fortunate to be allowed to drive into the city for supplies and official duties, but towards the end of my tour the rules were bent and we frequented the gold market and even 'Chop-Chop Square', where the beheadings took place. I always stayed in the car though at the parking lot keeping an eye out for wanna-be bombers. I had a pistol as well.

Back at the village, we even had a quanset (sp) hut which was covnerted into a church.

This I can understand, you have to respect the faith of other countries, but they in return should respect ours :whistle: The BA situation was stupidity of the highest order with Clergy from all the main religions coming out in support of the Lady's right to wear the cross, but BA in it's wisdom knew better.

Hey...don't believe me. Read the same Koran that millions and millions of radical muslims follow LITERALLY! Afterwards, you will have a better understand WHY these animals act the way they do NOW and why they have done so for the last 14 centuries leading up to their present day madness.

Afterwards, you will have a better understanding why the infidel world must fight and kill these animals, because it WILL either be US or THEM...you make the choice.
