The Democrats invited the victims of gun violence and the families of the victims from several mass shootings to the SOTU.

    The Republicans invited this guy...

You guys wonder why Americans thinks you're a bunch of extremists.

So, the Democrats make a pathetic ploy for sympathy in order to promote an agenda which will diminish our right to bear firearms while Ted Nugent exercises his right to free speech. Let's see, one side wants to limit our rights while the other side wants to promote our rights. I don't get the point you're trying to make here. Are you saying you're against freedom of speech?

Nugent makes many idiotic comments, perhaps none more so than the one where he said that if Obama gets reelected, within a year he (Nugent) will either be dead or in jail.

Mind you, he said this after roughly four years of Obama as President, a period of time where Obama did NOTHING to incite such maniacal vitriol. It was simply the FEAR that drove this Second Amendment NUT to say such an idiotic thing.

That said, I am of two minds regarding his appearance today at the State of the Union Address.

One the one hand, as someone who has made threats against Obama, he has no right to be there. His rhetoric is that of a child, and should not be excused under the guise of freedom of speech. The argument that he has the right to be there as an American citizen is utter bs, considering that rhetoric. Simply put, he IS a security risk, albeit the risk is infinitesimal, given the security around the President.

On the other hand, since his rhetoric IS that of a spoiled child, a spoiled child with a severe mental deficiency mind you, then his appearance is a plus for people who want to show just HOW insane second amendment nuts can get, if allowed to get that way.

The headline very well could be "Spoiled child meets unamused adults" in tomorrow's paper. I hope he does something really dumb that gets his ass dragged out, kicking and screaming. The motorcity madman should appreciate the image. Maybe he could put out a decent album with that on the cover, if he can still play guitar, of course.

It's funny how you get it and then we have Coin... Hum? Nugent is a bigmouth freak. This is the guy who is so patriotic that he crapped his pants in order to avoid being drafted during Vietnam. If he really loves guns, how come he was too cowardly to step onto a battlefield where other people also have guns and serve his country? BTW He is also an admitted pedophile. Yeah, lets invite him to the SOTU Right-wingers.

I'm guessing he simply refuses to admit it. I shall explain, not for his benefit, but for others who may be having a similar difficulty.

The comment is what is referred to as an indirect threat. In a direct threat, the wording would be more like "If Obama gets reelected, within a year I'm gonna shoot him, and I will either be dead or in prison."

A direct comment, as in the example above, should be obvious to everyone. With it, carries a prison term, if the idiot survived the hail of bullets that would surely pass through his body. Nugent is not a total idiot though, and made an indirect comment, to paraphrase: "If Obama gets reelected, within a year I'll either be dead or in jail."

For one thing, he's wrong about jail, as he'd be in prison. Sure, he'll pass through the jail for processing purposes, but a prison-bitch he would be. Bubba is salivating at the thought..."mmmmmm, Nugent to keep me warm....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Now, an indirect threat, such as Nugent made, doesn't carry the same punishment as a direct threat would, but it isn't a joke. An indirect threat is taken seriously, though in practice it is usually mitigated without having to appear in court. If it is taken to court, the likely punishment, if found guilty, would be a fine, community service, and a stern warning from the judge to not be so damn stupid.

In Nugent's case, being a quasi-celebrity, community service (menial labor) is something judges typically give to remind people like him that they are not above the law...and is somewhat of a public humiliation, the better to drive the point in that he made a serious mistake.

Funny how direct threats only seem to count when the are from a conservative. Just ask Teddy Ruxkin about burning the Capital building!

Nugent is an extremist (of course), a hypocrite, and a fool. Patriotic as you can get, yet doesn't want to serve his country. Right-wing nut, second amendment nut, etc. As a guitarist, he can lure as many women as he wants into his bed, and he has lured more than most. His stances on family and religion be damned when there's tang that wants to bang on his wang.

Overall, he IS the poster-boy for the more insane members of the right. The hypocritical nature of his beliefs are an indication of just how stupid people can be and not know it. His type are a warning to all, don't let yourself get carried away with extremism, you really DON'T want to be Ted. Sure, you get all the sex you want, and financially you'd be secure, but do you really want to be an idiot? You can have all the sex you want and have financial security without having to become an extremist. Don't be an idiot, please. We have enough of them in America as it is lol

Predictably, the thread is about Republicans choosing to invite a guy like Nugent to the SOTU while Democrats invite non-celebrities, Americans that have suffered and that have been the victims of gun violence, so naturally people like Coiny try to make this about free speech which of course everyone is for but has nothing to do with the topic. Next he’ll claim that these Republicans have the right to invite anyone they wish to invite even while they themselves had Cindy Sheehan arrested for trying to attend Bush’s SOTU address in 2006 after Congresspersons Lynn Woolsey and John Conyers, Ann Wright, Malik Rahim and John Cavanagh invited her and Lynn Woolsey brought her a ticket to the State of the Union Address.

I somehow do not think Cindy Sheehan was arrested "arrested from attending Bush’s SOTU address in 2006". (I assume you meant "arrested from [for] attending Bush’s ....) My guess is if Ted Nugent arrives in similar attire to Cindy's, he will get the same treatment.

Good one, RLM. Thanks for putting these left-wing liberal nuts in their place. As they know, Ted Nugent didn't threaten anyone. He told Obama to "suck on this" and Hillary to "ride this". Those are sexual innuendos, not threats of violence and they know it. Little Joe and his lapdog love it when liberals try to stifle free speech any chance they get and promote their off-the-wall agenda at any opportunity. Keep your hands off Nugent's rights, liberals.... and mine while you're at it. In fact, don't even consider taking my rights away.

I've noticed that the claims of "freedom of speech" from republicans is one-sided, as well. Hypocrites, of course...and I'd accuse it of being child-like, but there are some children who would rightly take offense at such a remark. Still, their comments are a less than mature way for them to attack Obama, which is (of course) their main target.

As for Nugent, he made an indirect threat, and the Secret Service isn't amused. They will ensure Obama's safety, and would prevent his (Nugent's) appearance had he actually made a direct threat. He did, however, embolden others with his idiotic comment, and the repercussions of that is taken seriously, as it should be.

I have no idea why we, as a country, permit these types of comments to go unpunished, or otherwise excused. My hope is that a very serious SS agent gets right in his face and pushes Nugent to do something stupid, but they have more restraint than I do.

The other funny thing? Mention liberal celebrities, and watch the spittle fly. Granted, I'm spitting too, but I at least state my reasons for doing so in a manner that most can understand, if not agree with... though that is if the aspirin is doing it's job and allows me to be coherent, of course. ;)

Yep. Little Joe called for tarring and feathering the man. Tarring and feathering is a form of torture usually inflicted by a vigilante mob. Hot tar can cause searing pain and, if the victim survives, scraping the tar can cause skin to be torn from the body leaving it raw and bloody. Then thinking there would be violence in the streets of Wisconsin and saying it would be "justified". What sort of maniac would say such things?

BTW, he was completely wrong about Scott Walker being "toast". Walker is still very much in power and leading a state that was on the road to ruin thanks to union demands, but is now on the road to recovery under Republican leadership.
