I was wondering where to post this. I guess religion is as good a place as any. I think we're experiencing a societal split in America. Has technology over-taken our Family-Centric society? Can we remain a Family-Centric society or shall we pivot to a Centralize society managed by elected representatives following the advice of experts. In the United States, we're locked in a battle over which way to turn. I think if we can debate this issue, all our other problems will melt away. I'm gonna try another poll, but the last one failed. (Dang...that one failed, too)
Technology has made the family centric structure almost obsolete. With people spending so much time staring at screens, it has become much easier for certain entities to feed their viewpoints to the masses. I'm not sure if it will change or what it would take to stop the pivot to a centralized model.
I believe in engagement. If technology is forcing a societal pivot, perhaps we should discuss the details...or have they already been discussed for us?
I'm not finding the problem YP. Not sure how to help at this time. I've got some sales to record and prepare packaging for, so I'll be away for a bit, but I'll try to take a look again later if not too tired. Mike
We should definitely discuss the details. Engagement starts on the smallest levels (your home, your workplace, your friends) and can be built up from there.
Well.... I don't know any other way than family-centric. I know I am a dinosaur and that is OK. Frankly, before this thread I haven't considered another option. My wife sets dinner on the table each evening and we all sit (without devices) and we enjoy each others company...... I think about my saintly mother. She was a special needs teacher since forever. She decided to retire ten years ago because in her words, "parents expected her to raise their kids". And I'll tell you, the education system lost a good one when she threw in the towel I just wonder how many times that same story has played out in our nation?
Ceausescu's Orphans Nicolai Ceausescu (communist dictator of Romania) had an elite group of body guards known as "Ceausescu's Orphans". These were the "pampered" orphans, raised from birth by the State. The rest were thrown on the scrapheap of time. This comes to mind as I listen to the Left asking us to change the name "Mother" to "Birthing Person". Is this the future that's being foisted upon us? Why isn't anyone speaking up? This is what Socialism is... "The group is pushing Romanian authorities to admit to, and apologize for, the hunger, cold, beatings, sexual abuse and lack of care suffered by an estimated 500,000 children in the country’s dismal orphanages before the end of the Cold War. Immediately after the fall of communism, the images of starving, naked and sick children found in overcrowded Romanian orphanages shocked the world. GlobalPost revisited some of these stories, speaking with orphans, caregivers, authorities and the foreign journalists who covered the story decades ago." https://www.pri.org/stories/2015-12...s-slaughterhouses-souls-now-they-want-justice
I really can't figure out a cogent context for these questions nor which experts are saying exactly what about who. You state that we are experiencing a split but don't say why you thing so. You launch into two questions and then state that we are locked in a battle. If you could please clarify your central ideal and what issues you want to debate, I would be happy to contribute. I have quite a bit of family rearing experience I could share. I think I may have some insights. Thanks.
God! I am sitting in an airport and typing on my phone and it comes out as some pretty strange sentences.
I go back and read many of the posts I have written in a rush and hang my head in shame. It’s OK. It happens to us all.
I am getting old. I read and re-read the post, and thought: "Why would he want to share family rearend experiences? Weird....". Then it came into focus.
Socialism and Capitalism are two different economic models, but they each produce different societies. Societies that result from the values each encourages, supports, and develops in the people who live under those systems. From what I see, we seem to be evolving towards a system where parents play a diminishing role in their children's development. I think we're seeing the beginnings of that now. I shutter to think of what Planned Parenthood will look like in 50 years. I'm just saying that decisions are being made for us. Is this what we want? ...'cuz that's what's coming. Us older folks are dying off. I wonder if we did our job preparing the next generation.
Lol! My writing skills are lacking, for sure. I wish I had paid closer attention in English class. I got to thinking about this when some woman on TV said we should replace "Mother" with "Birthing Person". Then there's all this money for government run child care and preschool...and "free" college. This new budget bill seems to do it all. Government healthcare is the worst! We can see now how access to healthcare could be limited to only those who obey. We're headed down a slippery slope! Is that really what we want our society to become? ...and why isn't government stopping to ask for permission? Who's making these decisions? It's like the voter doesn't matter because the Treasury can print enough money to buy as many votes as necessary. This is why direct taxation is so poisonous...but that's another topic.
