Is this what we have to look forward to when we decide that all the "poor" people need help? Spanish judge orders 25-yr old man to 'leave home and get a job' - Telegraph BTW, the local headlines were that the man lost. The judge did "order them to pay their son 200 euros a month for the next two years "to help with his emancipation". And the son has a degree in law! A 25 year old sticking his parents for 6000 euros is losing?
They're very family minded in Spain. I'm guessing that's where the story is from. But what makes you think that al happen here? I've heard of judges making some pretty dumb ass rulings here. But they didn't seem socialistic.
Dunno about socialism rlm, but I think if I was deciding that case, kick his ass out and tell him to get a job might be what I'd say too.
I can't comment on Spain's political system, I know little of it. Instead I will comment on America's Socialism issue. I find it discouraging to hear that we as a country fail to learn from our mistakes. The issue of Socialism in America has many similarities to the Communism issues of our past, and present. I am referring mainly to the 1950s era of McCarthyism, and the repercussions related to it. The rabid fear and hatred of Communism in the 1950s was vile in nature, a repugnant display by unreasonable people who lacked the ability to truly understand what they were so angry and frightened of. Our country was split on the issue and has suffered greatly for it ever since. Socialism, much like Communism, does have it's good points. Denying any form of either is a sign of a weak mind, an unrealistic viewpoint. This is something that can only lead America further into the grip of irrationality. You cannot debate something with someone when their prejudices, their fears, and their anger prevents them from reason.
I agree this is absurd and to me it looks like the "kid" won his first case. I can't see it as Socialism run amock though. The judge didn't order the taxpayers to pay the kid except for his parents. Still a joke but I am thinking of suing my mother for about 36 years of "back allowance" with interest.
Hoo boy! Not another one on this forum! "If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow". - J. Lennon.
IQless1: "Socialism, much like Communism, does have it's good points." CoinOKC: "Hoo boy! Not another one on this forum! "If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow". - J. Lennon." My point was that there is always something useful in any system of Government. All are flawed, all have things that are repugnant, all have things that are good. To believe otherwise would be foolish.
Quite the opposite. I see nothing good in totalitarianism or dictatorial forms of government. If a form of government is flawed in it's very foundation (communism, for example) and is doomed to failure, then it's not a viable form of government and, therefore, not "useful".
I think you need to rethink that one. I think Tito did a fair job in Yugoslavia - better than democracy has done. And one of the most flawed is democracy. Its only advantage is that most of its flaws are reigned in.
I'll try an analogy. Say a car gets in a wreck. The car is useless and should be scrapped. But during that process, parts that are undamaged may yet prove useful.
I will try a better analogy. It is like mixing chemicals - since these two/multiple forms of government must coexist and mix together. Sugar and salt mix well in water. Don't try acid and caustic.
I'm sorry, I'm not suggesting that two separate forms of government be melded into one, rather that a small, nearly insignificant piece of an otherwise distasteful government be seen for it's own merits and not discarded as being somehow tainted.
I was speaking in general terms. A republic is far superior to a socialist or communist form of government. It's true that you might have a great leader over a communist regime and a terrible leader within a republic. But, the tenets of a republic as an institution of government are ideal. Of course, socialists and communists will disagree...
