How long will this process take? The reason I ask is simple. We currently don't have an affordable alternative to fossil fuels yet BO is pushing ahead with his (stated) objective of rasing fuel prices as a means of weening us off fossil fuels. Doesn't seem right to me. I'm not in sales
I'm not sure when he said it. By the way, what about that question that came up a couple of posts back? You were bragging about your $60k a year raise (roughly the cost of the 2 Chevy Volts you said you could buy) & I asked you how that jived with your previous claims of the dire financial straits your school found itself in. Remember, you said folks were losing their jobs, wages were being cut, tuition was being increased, remember thos claims? Now you claim to have rec'd a huge raise in pay? Can you explain the contradiction here?
Iqless.....serious questions that I hope you will answer honestly.... Given your financial situation (which you have freely discussed): 1) Does the rising price of gas put a further burden on you financially? 2) Is going out & spending $30k on an electric car a viable alternative for you? Anyone else here is free to answer the same questions.
Again, does that fact that not everyone being able to initially afford a hybrid really justify us not investing in them? Does not the people that can afford to buy such cars save gas and lower the price by reducing consumption? I don't know how anyone can be against alternatives unless they like pumping money in Arab countries. 1) No, I can walk to work. Working close to home is a choice I made. 2) Yes, it is a viable alternative. ~Anyone
First of all, thank you for being serious. I consider that an important step in reasonable dialogue. Now to answer your questions: 1) Yes. 2) No. Now, while the answers I gave above are true, they are not the only factors involved in the debate about whether or not an electric car is worthwhile pursuing on a federal level. Moen has provided some of the general reasons, and I agree with them, so I will address what electric cars have to do with the poor intead: In general, the poor do not travel far. Trips to the grocery store or work are the norm, and trips to vacation spots are not. Some walk when they are able to, some call a cab when they can afford to, some drive if they are able to afford to... but none can currently afford to spend $30,000 to buy an electric car...BUT... the cars the poor drive (when they have one) are used, and not just "I've had it for a year and now I want something different"-used, these cars have typically changed owners several times over the years and are at the end of their life. They leak oil, have parts rusted off, have mufflers held together with soup cans and wire hangers... when they are allowed to be on the road (some states have stringent requirements that prevent these types of cars on the road, so less poor people drive as a result). My point is that eventually those electric cars will degrade to the point where only the poor will want them and the poor will get them back on the road as best they can. Gasoline or electric? The poor generally have other, more pressing things to worry about like affording food and shelter, living with diseases, or generally wondering if they'll live to see tomorrow.
The future might well be Hydrogen powerd cars, we allready have bus's running on it in London and other cities http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0b9aafc2-4123-11e1-b521-00144feab49a.html#axzz1nwi4ZFWA There are problems to overcome but it is not impossible
Stephen Chu is the idiot who loaned half a billion dollars to Solyndra. He also wants us to paint our rooftops white to combat global warming. The guy isn't exactly a winner.
What would BO have the poor to do? They won't be able to afford inflated gas prices & they sure can't afford $30k electric cars? Not everyone can wait for the cars to become affordable as iqless sees happening nor is it realistic for everyone to move within walking distance of their job as moen sees as the solution.
Also the one who said; “Somehow,” Chu said, “we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”
Exactly, but the point is moot since the President has very little impact on the price of gasoline. If President did, you'd be pumping dollar-gas right now, it being election-time. He might be able to knock the price down temporarily, but it'll never stay there permanently.
Depends on the voting bloc you are trying to appeal to. BO screwed us on the Keystone Pipeline simply to gain the support of the eco-lobby.
Just think of how much more cash the Bush family will be tossed their way! I'm sure they're hoping for 10 bucks a gallon.
Screwed US? In what way? Canadian oil, processed here where all the carcinogens get released into our country, and then the oil is put on the world market for the benefit of the oil companies bottom line in approximately 10 years. Hum? I can live without being screwed like that for quite awhile. Why is it that facts never seem to make it into the Right-wing narratives?
Every single economic expert has said unequivocally that the only thing driving up gas prices is speculators like Goldman Sachs. We currently are drilling more wells for natural gas and oil in this country than the rest of the world combined...FACT! For the first time in decades, the U.S. is exporting fuel...FACT!
If you were not so ignorant of the facts and an admitted liar, your opinions might make your posts improve all the way to funny.
So go ahead and dispute anything I have posted. I dare you. Insults are just the pathetic man's refuge.
You must be the single most pathetic man out there then. Do you need more proof? Not at all difficult to find.
