Midas, you're not making sense again. Too bad. You want the US to stay in Iraq, and simultaneously want the moslems to kill each other. Well, we went into Iraq at will, and we can leave at will. It was a mistake to go and a mistake to stay. All we have to do is leave. That corrects the US error, stops the deaths of US soldiers, and more than likely will begin an even more violent civil war than is already taking place. Those who say we can't leave don't study history. We left Vietnam. We left Lebanon. We left Somalia. When you're in a hole, stop digging. I just can't understand why you are so self-conflicted over this. You can get what you desire most [dead moslems] by doing what you hate most [leaving]. Maybe it's some sort of childish impuse to avoid "losing" without having an adult understanding of what winning and losing is. You'd make a good case study for someone's psych textbook.

We defeated and killed Sadaam...which is what needed to take place. Would you rather still see him in power?

Well guess what? He's gone and now there is a power vacuum left and hopefully, these people can govern themselves and obviously that is not happening because of muslim against muslim insanity. So with that in mind...I say we just keep these animals at arm's length and let them fight it out since they have no idea how to act civilized. Keep our troops based (a la Gitmo) so if they do act up...which is what "true" muslims always do...we can "spank" them and keep them in line.

Remember...just because we leave Iraq doesn't mean that islamic jihad will stop. It was occuring well before we got there and it will occur well after we leave as per your suggestion. I just would rather keep an eye on these islamic animals THERE because if you doubt they will not muster the technology and will to attack us HERE, you are sadly mistaken.

Unfortunately, at this point, all of the "good" options are off the table. There are only bad and really bad options left to us at this point. I don't believe that more of the same failed policies from the same failed leader supported by the same Republicans in congress is going to come up with anything new. Nor do they have the confidence of the rest of the world that is essential for a world-wide effort to eradicate terrorism. A change in leadership is therefore critical to moving forward and the only question is do we wait until 2008 or just impeach the idiot at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave?
We could plod along until Bush is out of office so that he can save his legacy and never admit mistakes while thousands more die in Iraq. Frankly, I couldn't care less about his legacy. I rather see less U.S. soldiers die needlessly and conference with allies that will respect and trust the next leadership and come up with a comprehensive solution. Right now we are out there on our own and not doing too well.
I'd pull out of Iraq temporarily with the intention of returning if things don't go as we want with the support of our allies this time. Much of the doomsday scenario predicted by this administration is pure folly and their inept preformance so far should tell anyone with a brain that I am right in this respect. That's my plan anyway. If you've got a better one, let's hear it. And BTW, ridiculing this one, isn't a plan.

I'm interested in how do we pull out temporarily? It would take a loooong time to get everyone (military, US civilians, etc) and everything (we don't want to blow up) out. Months and months and months.

The U.S. traditionally leaves most of the equipment in the theater when they leave. That way they new stuff when they get home and our enemies get to shoot at us with our own equipment when we come back the next time. Military intelligence, go figure.

I really doubt we would leave that much of our armor (tanks, helicopters, apc's, etc) over there. You are looking at tens of thousands of combat vehicles. And that is only part of the stuff we have over there. Think of the ammo dumps, depots, parts that we would not want to fall into enemy hands. Heck we are shredding old f14's in the US just so the parts don't get out. No way are we leaving that much stuff over there.

Poo poo it all day long but you are looking at many months for any kind of organized withdrawal. I doubt we could complete it before the end of the year if we started yesterday.

I only care about the national interest of the US, not UN mandates or Middle East security or Iraq politics. As things stand, our nation has gained NOTHING from the war in Iraq. NOTHING. As in NOT ONE THING.

I'd like to hear Midas' plan for withdrawal or staying the course or whatever and see just how similar it is to what we are currently doing. Give us your best plan. Some details please. No copy and paste.

I wouldn't rather still see him in power. I'm glad he's gone. But what have we accomplished since??? Just losing soldiers in exchange for killing muslims?

Some Democrats and Republicans have mentioned the idea of leaving a small American presence in country for training purposes perhaps even an Airbase. While it's worked in the past in other countries, probably not a good idea here.

In this situation, I don't even see where a small training presence, say half a division or so (5000 -10000 troops) can be maintained after the majority of US troops are removed. Again, other countries where Americans are seen a friendlies it's no problem like Germany, Italy, Norway, even Turkey, but not now in Iraq. It's just not going to happen as long as Al Sadr is still selling his popsicles and snowcones.

Now as far as Uncle Sam leaving military goodies for the peaceful Iraqis after we leave... Well, that's not going to happen either. Not to say there won't be a (Mary Kay Pink) Ford or the odd Colt .45 left, there probably will be, but you can bet there won't be any Patriot Missile Batteries left on the dock by the Arleigh Burke (Aegis) Destroyer so-to-speak.

The answer for Iraq is a tough one to some and to others it's easy... But it begs the question. "Is a US withdrawal the right thing to do at this time???"

The question also needs to be asked, "where should we fight inslamic terrorism?" Shouldn't we take advantage of dictating the battlefield instead of where our enemies wish to fight?"

I know that it is PC unacceptable to call this a war on islam...but let's not mince any words. It is a war on islam and it NEEDS tr be a war on islam. We didn't start this madness, but we better fight it and finish it on OUR terms, not these animals.

No, this is not a war on Islam except of course in your head. And conversely, Islam has not declared war on the West, except of course in your head again. Muslims leading this fight would love for the whole of Islam to be at war with the West instead of a handful of vacant-brained recruits they manage to seduce with Jihadist BS. You give them exactly what they want by fomenting the hatred of Muslims in the West and helping to reinforce everything they have been saying about the West. But you already know this and don't care how much you aid the enemy in their cause. You sure are a true blue American patriot more interested in the thought of revenge than what actually makes sense. You'd also make a rather fine Jihadist if I do say so myself. They only focus on revenge above and beyond all reason and you already have that characteristic down pat.
