    Is there a search-engine, besides those favorites of the Communist Chinese
    political police Google and Yahoo, that's any good at all?

    Ask.com will give you one actual website with info and fifty fake sites
    simply copying that info . . . .

    Another thing that pisses me off is how many "search-engines" are just
    portals to Google or Yahoo.

    HmmMMmm:

    http://www.kazazz.com/

    although it allows you to buy search-positions, seems to be independent,
    fast and give good-quality results.

    I think I'll try it for awhile.

    If you haven't already, you might give this site a look see.

    I know you believe you understand what you think I said,
    but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not

    Yeah, that's what I was working my way through.

    <groan>

    I just tried "algebraic-topology" and got Hatcher's homepage:

    http://www.math.cornell.edu/~hatcher/

    Note the "Festival" page link, and on that page the prize to be given.

    (It doesn't say what planet the festival's going to be on.)
