I would think that if you are disgusted by the divisions we see in this country, you'd have to have no love for Rush Limbaugh. You don't get to be both disgusted by the divisions tearing this country apart and a fan of one the most divisive people ever to host a radio show. Pick a damn side already.

Frankly, I am not a fan. The extent of my listening was during the Clinton years. And you know what? I voted for Clinton's second term! The man is an entertainer, plain and simple. No more and no less.....What I am witnessing is this. If he were the most benevolent man in the world, he would be trashed by the left on the day of his death simply for being conservative. Bashed by the people that claim to be the loving heart of our nation. It is beyond disgusting. He didn't rape women and abuse babies. He talked on the damned radio for chrissakes!! You people profess to be the understanding and all accepting future of our nation and you batter a dead entertainer simply because he is conservative! And this is the future I am handing my kids to?? This scares the absolute hell out of me.

Simply because he is a conservative? A bit of a misunderstanding of my objections.

    My condolences to his family.

    Is that better?

Now as for Limbaugh himself he's not down. He's out.
I repeat good riddance and not because I consider myself higher and mightier.

No it's because he spewed forth hate and a good deal of lies for DECADES and for some reason you think I should mourn his passing?

He pioneered talk radio. Unfortunately in a hateful, misleading way and to his credit did it till his demise. Helped Trump send out the "big lie".

    He will be missed.
    Not by me though.

I'm sure somebody loved Rush. Maybe his mother? Maybe one of his multiple ex-wives? I didn't really know the man on a personal level. I can only judge his character by the words he chose to utter. If you agreed with with his opinions, you have lost a friend. If you disagreed with his opinions, you are more likely to not give a rat's ass that he has died. That's just the way the world works no matter how you would like it to work.

Besides, wouldn't it actually be more hypocritical to have railed against everything the man stood for and then mourn his passing? I think it would.

Thanks for evaluating my thought process there Mopar Dude.
    Unfortunately you're totally wrong.

Let's say this were Glen Beck for example. A conservative that I feel is truly an idiot.

However if he were to die my reaction would be nothing like what I feel about Rush passing.

He wasn't merely "an entertainer that talked on the damned radio".
MILLIONS listened to him spout lies and hate for DECADES.
    MILLIONS believed him.

His impact on our society and political views was huge. Not in a good way either.

    This is why I maintain.

    Good riddance.

I despised Limbaugh for being a mendacious, vile, smug promoter of hatred and division who dripped poison into the ears of millions of people who trusted him. You will note that when John McCain died, the reaction from the left for the most part was to acknowledge his undoubted service to the country and his integrity. Limbaugh avoided service and thrived on encouraging bigotry. From an acquaintance:

Limbaugh had a lot to answer for but he got a medal from Trump instead.

Jeez... Does Beck still have a platform somewhere? That is one sniveling human being...... Look, it is easy to dislike a person that has views different from our own. Not all that long ago, that was acceptable in our country. The man was entertaining to listen to between phone calls during the stress of the workday. And I did listen to him regularly for several years back in the 1990's. I didn't find his diatribe to be dangerous. Just a bit silly really, and that is how any entertainer should be viewed..... James Taylor is an absolute raging liberal, but I LOVE the mans music and will go out of my way to see him perform. I just turn my attention away when he speaks from a political platform because it really just don't matter. He is liberal and I am conservative... And that is OK..... Ultimately, this is what disturbs me the deepest. We have found ourselves in a society where it is no longer OK to be different or have different views. We harshly judge those around us based upon their political/religious affiliations and no longer judge based upon character and heart. It is a dangerous road that we seem unable to turn away from.

If the views you have are vile and racist, it is not OK to have different views. PERIOD!!!!!!

And if I said Obama had some vile views of his own that were lavishly disguised by his silver tongue, would you find me to be a little off kilter for believing that?

A lot of what you said here makes sense.

I know a guy that won't watch Shawshank Redemption because Tmothy Robbins plays Andy Dufresne. Furthermore it's based on a story by that liberal Stephen King.
A fabulous writer (by far my favorite) and the story title is actually Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.

One off my all time favorite movies is The Outlaw Josie Wales. I love a good Clint Eastwood flick. When it comes to politics I think he's an idiot but I still watch his movies.

Glad you didn't find Rush's diatribe dangerous. Silly and entertaining. You have enough brains to realize that but what about those that didn't have the brains to do that?
And there are many of those.

He helped in the divide our society suffers from. He also paved the way for more of the same.

Fine folks like that "good Christian" Alex Jones.

The thing that the hardcore libs cannot seem to understand is that just because you say so, doesn't make it so. I can say Hillary is the most rabidly vile liberal on earth... Or I can say Obama was the most two faced politician that ever graced the oval office.... Thing is, I am fully aware that just because I feel that way, it doesn't necessarily make it so..... So go on and feel however you choose to feel about the man. He is in a better place now and doesn't care how you feel. Just be man enough to recognize that your view of things isn't everybody's truth. It is your truth.

I would ask you to prove it using his own words as I already have. You neglected to do so, so enjoy your alternative reality. My opinions of Limbaugh are based in his own words. What are your opinions of Obama based on?

Your choices are gleaned from internet meme's. My whole point is your reality is no more or no less valid than my reality. The only difference is that I recognize that.

There is only one reality. That's how reality works. What you are referring to are opinions.

Perhaps, that's why I ask for proof of what people say. Most of what is posted here is opinion, and yes, my opinions as well. So if I say that Limbaugh is a vile race-baiting misogynist bigot, I can use his words to prove it.

After going back and reading all the posts in this thread, it has occurred to me that the posters here fall into two distinct camps. Those of us that are not sorry that this man no longer walks the earth and those of us that feel that his passing should illicit more reverence for his departed soul.

I think that there is no middle ground to be had here. Maybe we should just agree to feel the way we want to feel about this situation. I hold no ill will towards anyone that wants to show Limbaugh some degree of reverence and I hope that those people feel no ill will towards me for not wanting to show the same amount of reverence, or any really, for someone I considered despicable.

Is that really so hard to accept? It seems kind of normal to me.
