It seems like Romney is getting hit left and right from his fellow Republicans. They sure hate their guy when their guy loses.
I'm usually pretty good at predicting what would have happened had such and such won, but in Romney's case, I can't conclude anything...he was so amenable to influence, it's hard for me to pin down whether or not Republicans would have liked him had he won. Certainly, they would have loved him winning in the short-term, but I'm talking over four years. He wasn't the typical Republican politician, and may have been too centralist for the Republicans. I'm guessing by his fourth year, they would have despised him, but it's just a guess really...thankfully lol
If Romney was too far center I'm really scared of the right. Well, not really I would pity them even more.
If you think things would have been much different for the country, I don't think you have been paying attention the last ten years.
Well, gay marriage was supported by the executive, Freedom of Information Act was expanded, violence against women act, GM is still made and owned in USA, requirement for all OCS to have foreign language training, Higher education affordability reform, Race to the top program, GI Bill 2.0, Largest overhaul of Pell program in history, "for profit" gainful employment act for high education, etc. That other party, you know, the anti-intellectual one, would not have passed those education reforms. That other party, the anti-gay one, wouldn't have supported gay marriage. That other party seems to advocate a reduction in women's rights, apparently they don't like women. Things would definitely be different. View attachment 834
Romney, like most Republican presidents, would have someone in the background pulling his strings. Bush had Cheney and the NeoCons playing the role of puppet master. Most of those same people minus Cheney are still looking to dangle a new puppet and Romney would have served that function well. If you are curious about what Romney would have been like, just look back at Bush.
If Romney had been elected, we would still be in Afghanistan and instead of more spending and more taxes taxes we would have had less spending and less taxes with the same overall result and we would still have every program that was passed in the last 4 years including Obamacare and we would still have the Patriot Act and all the add-ons and abortions would still be legal and violence against women would still be illegal and our education system would continue to be a failure compared to much of the world and there would still be an unstoppable social move toward the freedom of gay marriage and on and on.
Not MUCH different, except that Republicans would be more smug instead of more @#$%ish. But no, I was referring to how Republicans would treat him more than how it would have affected policy or whatnot.
What I'm talking about is his desire to appease. Certainly he was Republican, and promoted Republican ideals, but over four years my guess is he would also want to appease Democrats too, in order to try to unify the country. It wouldn't work though, of course, and as a result he'd be hated by Republicans. But, like I said, I'm not concrete on that...just a guess.
That is the only explanation for the governing we have had the last 10 years. Heading toward the Grad Canyon with no steering - screw the brakes, hit the gas - we can jump this mother!
The would have treated him like what he really was...a former elected governor of one of the most liberal states in the union. Someone who passed a healthcare plan just like the Preisdents.
