With the deepest recession ever inherited by any president in modern history, Obama seems to be turning things around. U.S. businesses are sitting on a record 2.12 trillion dollars in liquid assets, the stock market is at pre-recession levels, the unemployment rate is inching downward, and even the housing crash seems to have leveled out. Obama was realistic in the beginning when he said things wouldn’t get better overnight. So why are the Cons so desperate to call Obama a failed president while the major economic indicators say otherwise? Oh yeah, desperation.

Unemployment rate falls to 8.5 pct., hiring surges

WASHINGTON — A burst of hiring in December pushed the unemployment rate to its lowest level in nearly three years, giving the economy a boost at the end of 2011.
The Labor Department said Friday that employers added a net 200,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent, the lowest since February 2009. The rate has dropped for four straight months.
The hiring gains cap a six-month stretch in which the economy generated 100,000 jobs or more in each month. That hasn't happened since April 2006.
"There is no question that today's employment report is a positive and there is also no question that the pace of job growth has accelerated of late," said Dan Greenhaus, an analyst at BTIG LLC, a brokerage firm
A better job market is a positive sign for President Barack Obama, who is bound to face voters with the highest unemployment rate of any sitting president since World War II. Unemployment was 7.8 percent when Obama took office in January 2009.

Does your article go on to say that the hirings included uniforms consisting of red and white velour and fluffy white beards? :)

Is that your way of seeing the dark cloud in the silver lining? I expected as much and I wasn't disappointed.

Does BO bear the blame for anything?
He blames Bush, he blames Republicans, he blames the wealthy, he blames big business, he blames Wall Street....does he accept any responsibility at all?

Obama's done pretty well with the house Bush built. Why should he take the blame for a disaster that resulted from Republican policies? He didn't start either war, nor did he take the leash off of bankers and set up the great swindle. I don't think he should have bailed anyone out. If they fail let them. But I'm no economic expert and I can't pass judgement on that.

No, that's not a no. I'm saying I don't see much to blame him for.

Well, every economic indicator is worse today than it was the day he took office. Is any of it his fault?

That's simply not true. Jobs are up, housing sales are up, the economy is rebounding.

Really? Are we still losing 750,000 jobs a month? What was the the Dow at the day Obama took office and what is it today? What was the condition of the auto industry when Obama took office? You leek nonsense out of your mouth like Santorum.

Jobs are up? Only when the gov't "adjusts" the data & doesn't mention seasonla hirings.
Housing sales are up? All those homes that have been foreclosed on & involved in short sales have to go somewhere...property values are way way down as a result.
Not good examples of a "rebounding" economy, are they?

But you have no problem ignoring the truths you find inconvenient. Typical you.
BTW The way unemployment is calculated has not changed since Obama took office. That is your own personal delusion

    No, just read the news:

Unemployment benefit applications jump to 399,000

    January 12, 2012
WASHINGTON (AP) — Applications for weekly unemployment benefits spiked last week, largely because companies let go of thousands of workers after the holiday season.

Well, Bush Jr.'s fumbling was a major reason we're where we are now. You don't accept that and want to blame Obama instead? Reagan and Clinton also contributed, but it's Obama you want to blame? The housing bubble burst before he was even President yet you want to blame Obama for it all?

Obama was handed a sinking ship, a ship no longer captained by the people that put a hole in it's hull, he patched up the hole and is pumping out the water... but you blame him for making the hole? That's insanely ignorant of the facts.

And yours is a very convenient re-telling of the "facts".
My question is simply.....As a nearly full-term president now, does BO bear any responsibility for the state of our economy?

A "convenient re-telling of the facts"? Coming from you? Thank you! When you learn how to reason post something and I'll let you know if it's reasonable or not. So far you've had an unreal amount of unreasonable posts, but keep trying.

Blame Obama for everthing. Go ahead, be my guest. If you can't see how dumb that is, that's on you and you alone.

Are you not even going to TRY to answer David's question?

What possible motivation do I have? Why in the World would I feel the need to answer it? Remember, I know David has no intention of doing anything other than attack Obama, Democrats, and liberals... so IMO there's no reason to engage with him beyond a superficial answer from time to time... as my mood dictates. Feel free to believe what you want about that lack of an answer, your opinion means very, very little to me on that.
