I received this email message today and thought I would share it with all here since something needs to be done to bring Americans together. I would like one Friday to see most Americans showing there support of our troops by wearing a red shirt. Red Fridays. Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support Our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We Are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We Are not organized, boisterous or overbearing. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, Simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing Solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and Respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and Every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a Deafening message that ... Every red-blooded American Who supports our men and women afar, will wear Something red. By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on. The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is ..."We need your support and your prayers." Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

You are way behind the times Jwevansv as many people are doing this now for months. In fact, there cafe's out here where the waitress all wear red blouses on Friday and the cooks all wear red hats. At least three of the organizations on campus all wear red t-shirts on friday and our colors aren't any way close to being red. The first time I see it was in June or July and I thought the red ribbon society had expanded it's efforts to shirts and hats. The some dude told me what was going on.
It isn't surprising that the supporters for the war chose red, the international color of the communist party, as their banner to rally behind. Forget the republican and democratic labels. They are useless as an aid to understand what is going on. Extreme America-hating leftists like jwevansv are using the present situation to push for a transformation of the US into a military dictatorship with unlimited government power. They love this war and want it to expand, not end. It is sickening that they try to cloak themselves as patriots, conservatives, and republicans when they are, in reality, the most sinister left wing collectivist force that the nation has confronted in a long time - an effective fifth column within our borders that still goes largely unrecognized by the media for what it really is. The highest form of patriotism is dissent. Don't be afraid of this new threat. Support the troops and bring them home. Restore the Constitution, and the limited government it stands for.

I ask around campus to see if any one knew what all the 'red' color of ribbons and clothing was used to represent. These were the answers I received: AIDS, HIV, DARE, Reflex Sympaathetic Dystophy, DUI, Epidermolysis Bullosa, Heart Disease, Lymphona, MADD, and Substance Abusse. So I guess you can add the 'support the GI ' to that list as well. I personally don't see any negative symble to the color, as some of you have.

The rest is up to the individual reader to decide for themselves. They can choose your brand of "liberty," which is the liberty to do what you tell them to do with the intimidation to go with it; or the traditional American version of individual liberty. Guardian, I guess you have to have lived through the cold war to understand the symbolism of the color Red. Maps of the world used to be colored in red and blue. Anyone can create any symbol they want for any purpose, but for something like this it would have been preferable for the people to have some sense of recent history. I believe the yellow ribbon has been the traditional color and symbol for supporting the troops. Maybe it just wasn't a good fashion statement.

I think you'r right again Cloudsweeper, as I can even remember my Granddad having a old record that had a song about tying a yellow ribbon around s tree, or something...anyway you know what I mean. Yah, yellow should have been the color to use. Much better than red any day! Just thought of something...wasn't it also the color they used for POW's and MIA's?

Guardian, Going from memory, I believe yellow was first used by the girlfriends of cavalry soldiers. They would give the girls their yellow neckerchief when they went out on active duty, and the girls wore them as a status symbol to show everyone they had a boyfriend in the cavalry. Since then, yellow has sort of become the color of rememberance for different types of military related causes, usually in the form of a yellow ribbon. I might be wrong about this but that's the way I recall the story.
