Ronald Reagan defeated the USSR without a shot being fired. How did he do that? With my limited knowledge of world politics I will try to explain something, then I welcome your comments to see if it just me, or is America in some serious freakin trouble.

It's easy. We built up our military to scary ass strength.
We tied up the Soviet Bloc militarily.
    We broke their economy.
    It worked.

Now, where does America stand today? China and Russia are building the military to scary ass strength. We are tied up militarily. Our economy and our dollar is breaking.

He did it by massive deficit spending, the likes of which have only been topped by G-dub. Thats about all there was to it.

As much philandering and pilfering Bill Clinton did, at least for a brief moment during his presidency there was a budget surplus. Maybe the real solution to the budget problem is to elect someone with at least questionable moral character again. Hillary?:p

Plenty of shots were fired. They were just fired in places like Nicaragua and Afghanistan. Of course, we're not living in the aftermath of all that now...

The cold war was hot be it by proxy nations and/or with military advisors or sponsered mercs training and fighting for US interests.

The soviets were less discret and when they were discret as like Africa they were the officers at headquarters with east germans as officers in the field and operated with tens of thousands of Cubans fighting/killing/raping/and stealing in Angola and southwest africa from the 1970's up into the end of the 1980's. SWAPO was never in the picture of the reality of the ground there.

The cold war is still on in Korea, and lately it seems to be spreading to Venezuela and Bolivia. The current administration has made lots of enemies through one means or another, and has delivered them right into the hands of the GSB - successor to the KGB.
