Suzieflame, no doubt. I wouldn't worry too much about not understanding her.
No one can tell what she's on about; she's half-German and three-quarters

Neither. It's your responsibility to shoot his fucking dog, then take a crap
    on *his* lawn.

She said I shouldn't say what her name was. She sounded
very smart, but I wasn't sure that she wasn't trying to trick me.

I don't accept your revenge theory. It just escalates. If I
killed his dog and defecated on his lawn, he would do
something worse back. It doesn't make sense. The only
way to solve the problem is to negotiate with the person
    or kill him.

As Stalin said, "No man, no problem". But that's no good
    in normal life or here.

    Thanks for your input,

    Nugent

Yes it does, or at least a rough equivalent:

Go to "Advanced Search"; put the newsgroup name in the newsgroup box
(doh); stick offending newsgroups', hosts' and posters' names, not to
mention words or phrases, in the "without" box; hit "Search"; and click on
    "Sort by date" . . . .

(Most browsers will even remember the group and "kill-box" entries for
you, so that you just need two clicks for each next time.)

When a system is set up to accomplish some goal, a
new entity has come into being--the system itself.
No matter what the "goal" of the system, it
immediately begins to exhibit system behavior; that
is, to act according to the general laws that govern
the operation of all systems. Now the system itself
    has to be dealt with.

Thanks very much for your helpful advice, but, as I said,
it goes against the grain with me to have to build a fence
to keep someone else's dog off my lawn.

As Leslie Fiedler once said, "There has to be a better way!"

I appreciate your helpfulness. Please tell me, if you don't mind
my asking: Which group are you from, alt.horror or alt.flame?

    Thanks,

    Nugent

You have to be kidding. Right now, I'm too busy trying to make enough money to

You want to get into the sub-prime industry? Well, start by lending some money
to a deadbeat Ninja (no income, no job, no assets) like Shitlet. Then you
"package" this debt with similar junk, and sell it on to a hotshot as fast as
you can. Call it "The Enhanced High-Leverage Performance Fund", or something
like that. You have to do this, as no one in their right mind will touch the
"TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE DROP-OUT FUND" with a bargepole.

You're probably a bit late for the party, but that's how it works, more or
    less.

Naah... I'm still sticking with my day job. But you might say I'm
starting to go global with it, so the economic meltdown part caught my
eye. I miss the old days when International Relations basically meant
permutations of the Cold War, but times change and those who don't
change along with them might well wind up teaching remedial
multiplication and division at TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE.

For starters, just to stir things up, ask your employer if you
can be paid in Euros instead of dollars.

I still haven't turned in the official paperwork from my last trip in
October. When I was there, I paid in either euros or rubles, but now
that I'm back, I'll be reimbursed in lots and lots of dollars.

No hurry here. I figure I have another forty years to go before I
retire, and by then everybody will be getting their paychecks in yuan.

I was in a meeting last week where some financing thing came up at 9%
above LIBOR for a fairly high risk situation. I thought that was
pretty cheap, given that their pref shares were getting like 5% over
and the debt quality was somewhere around B/CCC. Can you guess how
    they managed the risk?

The guys who were lending the dough? Well, I never went to business school,
but the only hedge I can think of would be shorting the debtor's shares.

That or a put option would be good short term hedges, but it's not
publically traded in this case, and the debt was over 2-3 years.

They went in the other direction. They wanted a 1% chunk of the exit
price as a "final fee", as-and-when, as upside, instead of a few extra
% points on the debt today. They had no interest in carrying equity. I
guess you could say this is somethind similar to a PE/VC fund's
    carried interest.

Quite clever really, that 1% could be worth a sackload more on a
$500-800M exit than a few extra points today on a piddling $20M, and
in any case the debt holder controls the company if things go tits up
so the default risk is manageable. I've started calling it "venture
    credit".
