I ad a terrier when I was a kid. My other dog was a lab. One afternoon a St. Bernard that was known for damaging people's dogs walked into our yard with a section of his chain attached to his collar. He started to play the dominance game with my male lab who was too friendly to really understand. The 20 pound terrier went straight for the St. Bernard's throat. She hung on as the other dog stood there without moving. He took a step back and she let go. He walked away at the same speed he'd entered the yard. Coincidentally, I thought of this even a couple of days ago and told it to someone else. Terriers seem to be fearless. Staffordshires, probably the most aggressive variety, are the only dog besides Doberman that I have to get to know before I trust.

Sometimes we call her "Miss Congeniality," because she loves to flirt with the boys. It's a good thing we had her fixed when she was four months old, or we would be ass deep in adorable Lab mix pups. One day I was walking the beasts and a Newfie came across the street for a nice little friendly sniff of Miss Congeniality's butt. Our terrier boy yapped and snarled until the Newfie - five times our little guy's size - took off running down the street. On the other hand, if he's in the house or in the back yard, he is definitely the beta dog in our pack. A cuddly little guy who follows Big Sister's lead and wants nothing more than to be petted or given a treat.
