RLM, in case Moen is too lazy to click on your links, allow me to give him the headlines: REPORT: ILLINOIS' UNFUNDED PENSION LIABILITY NATION'S LARGEST ILLINOIS' PENSION LIABILITY WORST IN NATION, COULD SINK STATE ECONOMY ILLINOIS PENSIONS CUT INVESTMENT EXPECTATIONS
You don't have to tell me about the pension underfunding, I am in that pension system. What I was referring to was the protesting going on all around us under Republican governors. Our responsible Democratic governor raised income taxes another wooping 2% to address the issues of underfunded pensions and budget shortfalls. The people and businesses in this state are both contributing and that is the way it should be. Unlike Wisconsin where Walker first gave 100's of millions in tax breaks to his favorite campaign contributors and then went after the working people of his state. He tried the same thing in Milwaukee when he fired the union security personnel and hired a private security company that happen to have a convicted felon running things. His decision was reversed and he was forced to rehire the union personnel with back pay. Some leader!
"There are none so blind as he who will not see!" You are right. Illinois is not like Wisconsin. Illinois increases their taxes (chasing out businesses) and adds billions to their spending. Wisconsin incentivizes business with a tax cut and cuts billions from their spending. I wonder which will work?
Funny, but I do not see the words "income tax" in my post. Could you please point them out to me? Also, it seems to me we already decided which state is in more debt and which state was taking care of their debt.
The only tax increase we've had is an income tax increase so what else could you have been referring to? Illinois also capped spending increases at the same time. I don't think the governor of Wisconsin is having a whole lot of luck with his strategy while we here in illinois had no protests over the tax increase.
Illinois Income Tax Increase: Legislature Approves 66% Tax Hike Oh! My! Apparently you are agreeing with me. Illinois increases their taxes (chasing out businesses) and adds billions to their spending. You have not even hinted anything I said was wrong and I still managed to show you attempt at an objection is wrong - by you own news media.
What exactly am I agreeing with???? I agree that we raised income taxes but I said that first. I never said that we chased out businesses. Is this where you just go off in some obscure direction and declare yourself the winner? If so, see ya later.
You said "The only tax increase we've had is an income tax increase" which I show to be incorrect. I said "Illinois increases their taxes (chasing out businesses) and adds billions to their spending". You said "The only tax increase we've had is an income tax increase" and I showed they increased their corporate taxes also. Therefore, "Illinois increases their taxes" is an agreed fact. Then you said "Illinois also capped spending increases at the same time". i.e. they increased their spending. Therefore, "adds billions to their spending" is an agreed fact. Ergo, we agree!
Actually I made the point that businesses taxes went up before you did. And it is a corporate income tax increase. To be perfectly clear, both individual and corporate income taxes BOTH increased and we all are paying for this fiscal nightmare the way it should be. As far as your idea that we are chasing businesses away, illinois ranks first in job creation of the 12 midwestern states right now. Illinois limited spending to a 2% increase but I seriously doubt that equals billions.
Funny, but you know that cap? I think you need to read just what was capped. 2011 = $ 30,613 TOTAL OPERATING REVENUES & TRANSFERS IN (that is in millions, just in case you can't figure it out) 2012 = $ 33,932 TOTAL OPERATING REVENUES & TRANSFERS IN (that is in millions, just in case you can't figure it out) http://www2.illinois.gov/budget/Documents/FY 2012/FY12_Operating_Budget.pdf That looks like $3.3 billion increase to me. It also does not look like a 2% cap. BTW, which state has the highest population of job creation of the 12 mid-western states?
