A few of us were sitting around the watering hole last night- solving all the world's problems & this question came up: Knowing what you know about Obama now, would you still have voted for him in your primary? If you were able to change your vote, who would you support now? This probably is better answered by folks who voted on Super Tuesday or earlier as here in Indiana we voted pretty late in the process...when Obama's "real side" started to show through a bit and Hillary started her too-little too-late comeback. It was a rather mixed crowd I was with last night but it was nearly unanimous that if people knew then what they know now about Obama, Hillary would have won early & in a landslide.
Agree, the nation is headed to some surprisingly unpleasant changes it seems. One thing which is worrying me is where the MAJORITY of Obama's campaign donations are coming from. MILLIONS$$$ of dollars are being sent via Paypal and other electronic transfers from ISPs in the Middle East to include Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and even China. The Obama campaign is blindly turning the other cheek when it comes to investigating the source of these dollars. Ben
You know guys I've been pretty quiet as of late but sometimes one has to speak even when the minority. All I seem to see is fear and more fear tactics. Cripes, a lot of stuff going on with McCain these days as well but if I post any it will be shot down no matter how factual it may be. It's so much easier to just attack Obama and the people around him but say ANYTHING about McCain or the people around him and it's downplayed to trivial. So I keep quiet for the most part. However you really surprised me Bone. Took a few seconds to Snope the "Obama Contribution" allegations. Can you give me your sources on this? This is relatively new as it turns out and already I find this. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/donations.asp If the link doesn't work copy and paste it. NOW, there MAY be some contributions coming in from places like Iraq and Afghanistan if you think about. Last I heard U.S. soldiers had that right.
Clembo Nothing factual can EVER be shot down !! I have not heard at all of secret or spurious overseas donations at all ( except in the Gore and Clinton campaign ), nothing from Obama and I tend to try to stay pretty informed on these things. The longer this campaign goes on, the more things will open up. Obama is a fundraising machine, no doubt there, and I have no reason to believe it is nothing more than Americans drinking the koolaide, especially the indoctrinated youth in the socialist leftist colleges. I thought you were so silent due to Obama changing his mind on everything AFTER you voted for him.
I've been a bit restrained myself over the past few days but it gets harder & harder to keep quiet- the guy just keeps making news...and it's always a negative. Clem, who do you like most...the original Obama or the Obama that you have as a candidate now? You can't act like you don't know what I'm talking about- it's like 2 entirely different people!! I'm curious to hear what you have to say.
So where do I go guys? Please tell me. If I defend Obama I'm wrong. If I attack McCain I may be right but I'm wrong. So I will ask this David. What is it that I know about Obama now that I didn't know about before? He's been featured on the New Yorker? Now this will come off as "your typical Liberal response" but I'm used to it at this point. What do YOU see that is so different about him? I'd mention a few things but you'd just go off on a rant about "where did I say that?". Gimme some points here. Throw me a friggin bone. What are your points of contention? WARNING: I may not be able to satisfy you all with my answers. I may have to resort to "Liberal politics" and point out bad things about McCain that make Obama a better candidate.
Well first off, I've never defended McCain...on anything he has said or done. Secondly, I've never asked you for your sources on anything you've ever posted...I appreciate a "from the head/gut" debate a lot more than a "cut & paste" one. Let's harken back to about this time a year ago to that Obama...when he was a fresh new face on the scene, winning support for his hope & change...a new kind of candidate- before we knew anything about him. Now contrast that guy to the one we have now. He's a racist ("typical white person"), he's an elitist, his associations with the Wright's, Rezko's, Ayre's, etc of the world prove his real character, his stand on nearly every major issue is different now than when you first fell under his spell (except for his socialist programs and his support of murdering our unborn children), etc, etc, etc.
Thanks David, I'lll get back to you on this but in the meantime. You've never defended McCain. I'll give you that David. Hell, you never DEFEND anyone. You just attack Obama. Second, I don't believe I asked you in particular for any sources on this particular thread. It was Bonedigger I questioned and I was disappointed in his post. I respect Bone. As for from the "head/gut". What in the hell is that? Can be damn near anything David. Sorry but cut and paste is more reliable at this point. At least one can look it up and refute. Head and gut. Some cracker sitting in a bar spouting his views, some Wall Street magnate spouting his views, some Muslim terrorist spouting his views. Now THIS list could go on forever. Yes, the internet is one DAMN powerful tool. Anyone that doesn't think so is an idiot. Anyone that doesn't look things up is an idiot as well. So much garbage is spread via email and then filtered into everyday conversation it becomes common "knowledge". The truth based on nothing and often times totally wrong. Typical white person. NOW I understand why you don't like to be asked for sources David. If I'm not mistaken this comment came from his WHITE grandmother. Course we'll never know for sure now that the media has latched on and twisted it. Good ole Reverend Wright. Man you just keep beating that dead horse don't you? What did Obama do about it? Basically he ended up leaving the church. NOW, if something like this happened at YOUR church what would you do? I will leave this very vague out of respect but I think people may get an idea. What would you do? Would you support this person? Would you turn your back on him? Would you summarily dismiss the person, that perhaps, officiated your wedding? Baptised your children? Would you IMMEDIATELY do it for ALL the world to see? Pick out the pieces I missed. I'll get back on those as well. Might even surprise you. In closing I will tell you that I am basically surrounded by racists Ron Paul supporters. Before you jump to conclusions I don't see Ron Paul as a racist. Just so happens that the folks I'm surrounded by are BOTH. Ron Paul has some good ideas actually but they border too much on anarchy for me. I just let them rant.
Typical white person was an Obama statement ABOUT his grandmother, there is audio available to back this up. Obama did not lose the Rev White untill forced into a corner, 20 years history there, kinda hard to lose that. It does matter in my opinion. ..... Now all this moving to the center is just plain politics, and both McCain and Obama are doing it. They HAVE to. To win a partys nomination, they have to appeal to the hard party liners, as they are running against others for the SAME votes...... Once nominated, they MUST to appeal to middle America, they already HAVE the hard party liners. There are not enough liners on either side to win an election, you need the center. Both Obama and McCain are fighting for the Hillary votes, the Huckabee votes, etc etc, AND the undecideds, the biggest voting block in the USA. BOTH will pander and sway in the breeze of the polls....BOTH will flip flop, both will use different speeches to different crowds. Get used to it. It is called politics. During the debates, McCain disavowed his own McCain/Kennedy immigration reform fiasco bill, yet just this week, McCain is speaking to LaRaza ( translation: The Race ), a hispanic open border group, and he is promising amnesty. When talking to the REPO groups, he a tough on immigration kind of guy. When he needs the middle, he is a compassionate man who understand the need to treat all Gods Children with dignity............3 story lines, 1 candidate. Omaba has done the same. Jerusalem rightfully belongs to Israel. No wait, we have to share it. No wait, back to Israel again. Depends who your talking to. Quick, hurry up Obama, remove those referances to your opposition to the " surge" from your website....... Get used to it. The only differance is, the media has already elected Obama.
Heard it yesterday on the Roger Hedgecock radio program. I don't recall him attributing this to Maureen Dowd though. Ben
Clem, if I was psyched about McCain I would be touting him every chance I get. The fact is, I'm not. Without a Reagan-type candidate, this years election is more about who not to vote for & no candidate I've ever seen qualifies as the not-to-vote for candidate more than Obama. The head/gut debate vs. what you read on the 'net? What you said sounds kind of silly to me, well down right idiotic actually. The stuff you find on the internet should be taken with a grain of salt just like everything else you see, hear, read, etc. Take Obama for instance, if you had relyed on his website for info what you be thinking now- it's all changed!! I prefer to watch, listen, debate, read and form my own opinion. Just because Obama's website cliams he supports something or has a specific plan doesn't make it so, that was Gypsy's angle & see how quickly everything he/she spouted was shot down...it was that long ago that if you cited the 'net as your source of info you would have been laughed off the stage...you actually referred to it in your post, a lot of wild information gets circulated...sort through what you are reading and use your what? Yep, your head & your gut to digest it all!! You Obama fans would love for the Wright, Rezko, Ayres, Michelle & Fr Pleger (did I get most of them) stories to go away. The truth is, they are very important to the voters & a very good indicator as to his character- that is precisely why the issue won't die. You ask what I would have done? 20 years ago, the first time I heard the crackpot, I would have found another church. I wouldn't have given him an opportunity to indoctinate me, to marry me or baptize and influence my kids...a better question, what would you have done, clembo? We've heard what Wright believed & preached? Would you have been a follower of that for 20 years? Obama was proven to be a liar & a hypocrit the way he handled the siuation...or an idiot. Which is it? He followed Wright for 20 years and now disavows him for politcal reasons or is he such a moron that he was oblivious to what was being said around him? "Typical white person" was the sterotypical phrase he used to describe his own grandmother...not taken out of context, not looped, not twisted. It was a racist statement. When he accused our military of "air raiding villages & killing civilians" that was an anti-American, anti-military statement made during a war when our troops need support...in my opinion he should have had treason charges brought against him . This is the kind of information you won't ever find on the liberal websites so consider the source as you peruse the web...use the net as but one source of your informaton & by all means do involve yourself in discussions with the "everyman"...most people will come to a decision by talking to neighbors, friends, co-workers, watching network TV news, reading the newspaper and believing the propaganda put out by both parties (I apologize again that this isn't good enough for me- I have to process it first). I am still waiting for anyone to step up & defend Obama on all his shortcomings...seems that every time bonafide issues with Obama are discussed an attempt is made to shift the discussion to other issues. For the record...I voted FOR Reagan, I voted FOR the Bushes...this year I will vote AGAINST Obama....I am/was a Huckabee supporter.
Just yesterday, Obama was in Kuwait meeting with the soldiers....... He praised them, and rightfully so, saying that without them, IRAQ WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THE HUGE SUCCESS IT IS !!!!!! When did he change his opinion that Iraq was a huge success? When did any Democrat with the exception of Lieberman? Pander to the crowd on the rock star tour, then come home and get a whoopin from George Soros and your MoveOn gang, and go right back to calling Iraq a big failure. Do these candidates forget there are cameras?? Shameless
In all probability, Pat was a member of Obamas webwar propaganda push team.....nothing solid, all repeated from websources, and intentional attempts at misdirection.....I believe Pat found it would not work here and moved on. Clembo calls me paranoid, lol
Ah, the old misdirection play...I don't think I've ever met a Lib who didn't resort to it fairly early into any debate. You know, maybe I will defend McCain on something, at least when he has changed his views on some issues lately it seemed to be a result of public pressure (as in the immigration issue) or in the gas of drilling it was in response to sky rocketing fuel prices...I'll have to say he has stuck to his guns on issues he trully believes in. Is it also a coincidence that the 2 issues he has taken the most grief over were pieces of legislation where he "crossed the aisle" & worked with Liberals? Plus, he admits when flips & gives an explanation as to why he felt it was the right thing to do. Obama refuses to admit when his campaign changes his views- they simply parade his people to every media outlet & try to convince the American public that he hasn't flip-flopped..."what he was saying all along is...." . Man, I can't wait for the unscripted debates this season...Obama can run but he can't hide forever!!
Will be interesting now won't it. You have a guy (Obama) that says uhhhh... a lot and a guy who can't rembember what he had for breakfast (McCain). I believe what I said was Paranoia runs deep. Not specifically aimed at you Level Headed. You just happened to respond to my little blurb. Still I had a reason to say it and one day I'll share it. Something to look forward to. In the meantime some of you should keep checking your toothpaste for explosives. That "Muslim Guy" could be behind it.
LOL @ " The Muslim Guy" McCains memory suffers? Hmmm, never heard that before or is it just implying that he is old? C'mon, theres better stuff to throw at McCain than his age , isn't there !! If we keep calling Obama " The Muslim Guy " we are going to hear from more webwar Pats, thats no fun for sure. The M word is one of their sore spots.
A crack about McCain's age? Get real. Muslim jabs at Obama? Not from me...in fact I'm on record here as saying the New Yorker cover was wrong- it needlessly takes attention away from all of Obama's real shortcomings. Clem, still awaiting a response to my previous post (#11) where I responded to some pretty direct comments you made.
Late night chain yanker. Guilty as charged but I'll get over it. Seriously though I'd expect to see a lot more of this and I'm not talking necessarily coming from me. We have one NASTY mud slinging campaign starting to roll.
