I went to the grocery store early yesterday morning and saw something very refreshing when I left. Three cops explaining to a man that they were called because he was inside without a mask on. He had one alright. Draped around his neck and therefore totally useless. I saw him in the store just like that. That pisses me off every time I see it and it see it way too often. The signs are clearly posted that masks are required. It was one of the first stores to require masks and it's ALWAYS been well posted. They were explaining to this inconsiderate fool that the store was private property therefore he had to abide by their rules. Honestly, it was like they were talking to a three year old. He was told if he went back in he would be charged with criminal trespass. Think about it folks. Clothes are required in public. I can't go waltzing around naked and think it's okay as long as I carry them with me. Why is the mask concept so damn difficult? You know, it really made my day.
I can think of one person I saw inside of a store that didn't have a mask on in all the time we've been using masks. I didn't say anything to her but I am sure others did. I'm not sure if she just forgot or that she was making a statement. You have to give people the benefit of the doubt before you jump down their throats.
Your experiences only show the vast difference between states, policies and enforcement of same. The Republican governor of Indiana (whom I actually like) tried to get a strict mask policy in place only to have it shot down by the attorney general (a staunch Trump backer and certifiable idiot). End result is a higher positivity rate than states around us. No rocket science need be applied here as to why. I constantly see people with masks just draped around their necks or with their nose hanging out. I do agree about giving folks the benefit of the doubt as I once walked in the grocery store without my mask and it took me a while to realize something was wrong. When I did I simply returned to my car for my mask. Since then I have spoken with an employee at the store whom I usually BS with. An older woman and she told me they call the police fairly often about people with no masks. In her words the offenders are "generally rednecks". I have also noticed that another grocery store I shop at seems to have no problem at all with people wearing masks. Seems everyone just does as the signs ask. This particular store is frequented by more people on lower, fixed incomes such as myself. Also a higher percentage of black and Hispanic patrons. I've never seen anyone improperly masked up there. As a side note the man I saw with the police was black and with two women that were properly masked. I do not voice my displeasure with those who won't follow the store policies. I have no desire to be involved in any violent repercussions. What is wrong with people?
So my wife was at the same store yesterday and sure enough standing two places in front of her is a lady with a mask around her neck. The bagger asked her to kindly put it on which she did with a huff. When she was leaving the bagger told her to have a nice day to which she replied "suck it". Real class act there by a lady my wife said was probably in her early 60s. When my wife went to pay she told the cashier that she hoped the lady got Covid. She deserves it. The cashier told her a few days earlier someone got belligerent about it and had to be escorted out. She was not allowed to take her groceries with her. They just refused to ring them up and she was sent on her way. My kudos to my local supermarket for sticking to their guns regarding maskholes!
