looks funny (God knows that the church has some huge problems). Those bishops who oppose it sound pretty uptight.
Danr, the Cult of Rome are so full of it,it just isn't funny. That is why they deserve to be derided. Aidan.
The Catholic church is a HUGE institution and much good and bad goes on there. Catholic charities really do much good on a daily basis. St. Vincent de Paul is an organization (in the church) that is active in my area that really helps many people. I am referring to single mothers displaced from their homes with no place to go; widows and orphans type of things. They really walk the walk. That is one small corner of the church and there are thousands of similar ministries under the Catholic church. As for the bad stuff it certainly is there, the leadership can be arrogant and power centered. As for a serious theological defence of the church check this out: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/02...102-7309066-8176942?s=books&v=glance&n=283155 You should read this book if you are going to critize the church. If you still hate the church after reading it you will be able to form a more intellegent arguement.
Danr, you should go & see the 'Da Vinci Code',which the Cult of Rome hates. The Opus Dei organisation is an example of a cult within a cult. They are effectively the Popedom of Rome's militants who spy on the Cult of Rome's followers. Is idolatry Christian? I don't think so! Aidan.
I am on the liberal side of the church the Opus Dei movement is not my cup of tea. Check out the book that I linked above it will be a real eye opener. Even if you do not agree with it at least you will argue from a point of knowledge. If you can refute that book you will be able to take on any Jesuit priest (and those dudes are on a whole higher level of smart).
Danr,I used to be a nominal member of the R.C. 'Church' many years ago.I left it after being subjected to physical abuse by some of their members.I ended up joining the Anglican Church over here in New Zealand,& have been involved in church leadership from time to time, but this has decreased in recent times, however. Aidan.
Anti-Catholic bigotry is about the only type of bigotry still tolerated by most of the Western world.
Old Dan, when you and Aidan throw out terms like "Cult of Rome," "cool anit-Taig," think the Da Vinci Code is factual, and condemn an entire global religion and all of it's members for the actions of a few, you are a bigot. So wear the label proudly.
I don't know whats all the fuss about Da Vinci. It is not like he ever painted a picture of a hot looking women or something. Mona Lisa, please... now those artists at "Heavy Metal Magazine" really know how to draw a picture of a women.
One wonders how Christians can criticise Muslims or Jews etc when they are so damned busy slinging verbal and literal arrows at one another. Frankly all the religious strife caused by so called "believers" in this or that faith make a doubter of all religious activity all the more resolute of the conviction that belief in any such faith is a condemnation of your individual humanity.
