OK, so I got me a nice used ex-library hardback of _Monstrous Regiment_
and, yes, it's very likely "classic Pratchett".

Certainly got four possible .sigs out of it:

    > It must have been the socks talking.

    and

    > I am a bundle of suppressed instincts
    > held together with spit and coffee.

    and

    > It's an Abomination, of course, but these days
    > it's hard to find anything that isn't.

    and

    > You can't trust the people who do that stuff.

    And now we have _Thud!_.

It also is excellent, but I noticed something annoying, which is a
repeated referencing throughout the book to earlier novels, which reminds
me all too much of the "product placement" business in movies, and which
Pratchett hardly needs to do, and is unworthy of him and his books.

I also thought the six-o'-clock reading business was overstated.

More generally, I just realized (doh) the inconsistency in depicting
trolls as normally dim-witted, except under cold conditions, when they're
quite the opposite-- shouldn't that mean there'd be a very quick
establishment of a very un-dim-witted troll culture in the mountains,
etc., well able to technically handle their refrigeration needs elsewhere,
    in warmer climes and underground?

Oh, well, it's a mistake to press recreational reading too hard.
