Phony Soldier Charged With Making Up Claims of Atrocities in Iraq Sunday, May 20, 2007 SEATTLE — A man who tried to position himself as a leader of the anti-war movement by claiming to have participated in war crimes while serving in Iraq is facing federal charges of falsifying his record. Jesse Adam Macbeth, 23, formerly of Phoenix, garnered attention on blogs and in some alternative media after he began claiming in 2005 to have been awarded a Purple Heart for his service, which he said included slaughtering innocents in a Fallujah mosque. His story was contradicted by his discharge form, showing that he was kicked out of the Army after six weeks at Fort Benning, Ga., in 2003 because of his “entry level performance and conduct.” A complaint unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court in Seattle charged him with one count of using or possessing a forged or altered military discharge certificate, and one count of making false statements in seeking benefits from the Veterans Administration. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,274097,00.html http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=Jesse Adam Macbeth&btnG=Search News ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Entry Level Separation, no VA benefits... Is there nothing the anti-war fringe won't sink to including making the troops look like monster, well its off to jail pal
post it when he is convicted. Innocent until proven guilty (except for you al queda types who hate freedom)
If his lawyer is smart, he'll probably plead out. Sounds like he didn't even complete Basic Training, much less do anything to be awarded a Purple Heart. Maybe some sour grapes about getting booted out, and he found a willing/gullible audience with some anti-war folks.
according to the article in the stars & stripes, he: 'admitted falsifying the documents because he was homeless and wanted to "sucker" anything he could out of the government' Stars & Stripes May 20th issue, Mideast edition, page 4
Just one loser taking advange of a bad situation. Like those that tried to profit off of Katrina or 9/11. There are always going to be people that want to exploit a situation regardless of how cynical and cold we might see their deception. It's just human nature I guess. Atrocities do happen in war on both sides there's no question. You can't be too quick to blame anti-war folks for every crack-pot that wants to scam their way to easy street and you can't blame every soldier for what happened in Abu Ghraib and Haditha. But again, human nature dictates that we probably will anyway.
