I just bought a digital "wildlife" camera from a mail-order place on the Internet. You stick the camera on a tree in the forest and see what stumbles into view. This evening, with a few hours of setting it up, I got my first photos. I call this piece, "Three Deer Butts". I think it's kind of artsy. These girls lined up better than new Army recruits.
Great shot there dog! A picture sure beats having one on the ground and having to dress it out before sundown. By the way, it would appear that you may want to feed them a little bit more before winter sets in. They don't look as if they have been eating to put on weight.
California is a very sissy place. It rarely snows here in Placerville. There is year-round forage, in fact the grasses are just now coming up. Our winter grasses and forbes don't have a lot of food value, mostly water. It is very different from the northern Great Plains. I have no idea why the deer around here are always so skinny. I have areas planted in bunch grass, and nothing touched it until mid-September. We have skinny deer and fat people. GO figure. My pet jack rabbits are pretty stout. The racoons and foxes are very small. The ravens and vultures are huge.
